What materiale is the intake pipe (TB-IC) on 3B?

Hi,

Iam looking at installing an air intake temp sensor in the intake pipe. So I'm going to get one someone from work to weld in a bung.

But what materiale is the intake pipe, I would think it was stainless steel, but not 100% sure.

I need to buy a bung, so need the correct material

Its just mild steel I think...

I have wanted to graft two IAT sensors - one either side of the intercooler to try and quantify its efficiency somewhat. I need to do it somewhere that I can swap in bigger intercoolers and measure any benefit pretty quickly. What instruments are you looking at ?

Well perhaps you are right about it been mild steel. Just to be sure, we are talking about the pipe that are plastic on ABY and metal on 3B, right?

Anyways Iam looking at using a 20$ AIT sensor from summitracing, and then hook it up to a circuit that gives me a voltage output between 0-5V. Then I can log it in my Zeitronix unit.

I was looking at using this temperature interface from Welleman.be, and then replace the temp sensor with the one from summitracing

This one has a built in LCD display

Or this one without LCD display to use directly with my Zeitronix unit

The pipe is plastic on the RS2 and late ABY's only. I had a 95 ABY coupe and the pipe was metal.

I'll put a picture on tonight of the pipe with a temp welded onto it as I have one on my car.
