304 and 316 are very similar, although technically 316 (also know as marine grade SS) does have a slightly greater resistance to certain types of corrosion.

316 had a bad name at one point as it's the grade powerflow used and their variant rusted to f**k! I've seen others that are fine.
304 is better for heat tolerance, 316 is technically a better grade but Jamo is correct. I have stacks of 304 and some 316 bends but the 304 is going at the hot end!

I have seen some exhaust makers banging on about inferior 316 which is an inaccurate statement, but that's probably because the people involved were told by someone else.
In fact, SS321 is far better than both but it is a total b*****d to get as preformed bends.
