  • wastegate installation on a new headers

    i am trying to finish my half headers project,
    but what i dont know is
    there is a round steel under the wastegate which seats on headers flange;

    does this round steel has to have 0 gap with its seat?
    cause what i have(flange) ,has bigger radius then wastegate round steel

              Timucin,

              looks like you are missing a bit there. There is another part to the wastegate, a round ring that sits in the bottom where it meets the flange.

                      I agree with Mark.

                      Your metal flange needs to have a lip to seal against the wastgate. It should not be a tight fit against the part that moves.

                      There isn't a gasket so you need the lip to seal to it.

                      But you are missing a ring that fits tight round the moving part as well. It's confusing to describe - better with pictures.

                          You can see it on the illustration - the outer disc is not in your pic.

                          And the wastegate comes as one item - you can not buy seperate parts for it. i found that out when I tried to get a cup and shaft for it - you have to buy the complete item!

                            Question for anyone reading. I had an exhaust manifold (10vt) ceramic coated, and the sealing surface for the wastegate is not as smooth as it was when it was bare metal.

                            I'm thinking I may have to sand, smooth, or polish that surface to get the wastegate to seal up against it. I suppose I could find out when I run the motor, but does anyone care to speculate on whether it will be okay without some sort of modification like sanding?

                            Not trying to hijack the thread!

                            By the way, I have a wastegate that I've lost that same piece to. In the meantime until it shows up again, I've bought another WG.
