    water under the spare wheel

Just found a pool of water under the spare wheel. I had the driver's side light cluster re-sealed a few weeks ago as I thought that's where water was getting in, but this can't be from that area surely... My back seat (fabric) has mould on it... Nice.

Just found another post about water, so will check all around the tailgate rubber seal, but any other ideas welcome.

Avant? Nonsense... the last owners just didn't know how to close the boot properly. was the first thing I did to the V6 was make it water tight, didn't need to do the boot seal though.

So you can then earn a few quid on the side as an undertaker

@ Irvind, sounds like the passenger side needs resealing too.

I agree with Jas (about the undertake job too )

Whilst water from a leaking drivers side will run to the wheel well, it will mainly appear in the cubby hole on the drivers side, so it sounds like the passenger side needs re-sealing.

When I did mine it was obvious which light cluster was leaking as the inside was heavily stained from dirty water...see 2nd pic in my thread ....easily checked

          Cheers n

Thanks for all the into (and the gags....) guys.

I had the driver's side rear cluster replaced at a garage a couple of years back, and the bulb holder on that side is quite rusty. But the passenger side cluster has never (to my knowledge been tampered with, and the bulb holder on that side is clean. When I first noticed the damp, it was in the driver's side cubbyhole. And if you reckon it's possible that water can get from driver's side to passenger's side, then it's all starting to make sense.

However, when I get home later I'll have a good read thru that thread at the link you posted, and then keep an eye on the spare wheel well to see if it develops again. Hopefully not!

            Thanks again everyone.

open the boot and check whether the boot seal is wet where it meets the boot itself on that side. I replaced both lamp seals the other weekend and to my suprise i opened the boot the other morning and it was still wet. the boot seal was wet and i think the boot is not pushing down enough on the seal to make it water tight again. I guess time to check the adjustment of the little feet or replace (again) the bootseal.

Failing that, check that the screws which hold the black plastic trim above the lights on are sealed properly as water can seep through these...

              Cheers

                Aaaaaahhhh.........

                Screws? What screws?

These are missing. Where they went is a mystery. I get work done on it at a local garage now. In fact, they might have been missing since the rear cluster was replaced over two years ago.... Will any old screws do, or do they have to be specific?

I think they are big self tappers, not sure but you can just seal the holes with some of the stuff you seal the clusters on with. If you have no screws there, the water will certainly get in.

I actually think it's all ok now.

The spare wheel side is as dry as a bone, the plastic box on the driver's side was quarter full with water, but I'd never actually checked it before...

The black plastic above the tail lights seems to be fine. What I thought were missing screws before seem to be 3 holes into which water should run...?
