I’m sure it’s something simple but where do you start? Probably either a broken wire or loose wire.
Does anyone own a Haynes manual for the B2 80/90/coupe? If someone has one could you look and see if it show how to dismantle and repair the front seat?
Is there a thread on here maybe describing it?

On mine I have to pull up on the lever and Rich the seat back towards me to get it to unlatch. I guess one of my cables is a bit slack.
From memory there are hooks both sides onto pins which are screwed to the seat base with a large pozidrive CS screw, you should be able to unhook them by pulling them backwards away from the pins. Might need a bit of coathanger wire or similar. Do you still have the plastic trims over the tilt mechanisms? These are removed by locating the almost invisible plastic pins and carefully tapping them in, all the way till they come out the other side. The cover can then be removed.
So I’m not the first person to have this problem with this seat. Previously the non working cable to the catch on the right hand side of the passenger seat was temporarily repaired with a piece of chicken wire tied as a ligature to hold he catch open permanently and this had failed.
Do I need the long cable or the short cable to fix it correctly?
No zip on the bottom of the backrest upholstery! It looks to be stitched so replacing the cable might be trickier than I thought.
I reworked the chicken wire as a temporary solution to let me access the rear via the passenger side today.
All ideas and advice welcome.

IIRC you can lift the two catches at the bottom of the seat with your hands and then move the back rest forward , once you’ve done that then you will find some sharp tangs that keep the bottom of the seat cover in place , bend those back towards the back of the seat and then you can unhook the bottom of the cover , pull it up and then you can access the two cables , bit fiddly but not too difficult

Many thanks. I’ll get a look at the weekend.

No further forward apart from taking delivery of a new replacement cable. I’m afraid of breaking something - a “tang” - and then being in the market for a replacement seat!! I can’t see or feel any tangs or cleets on the bottom of the seat. I wonder could someone who has opened one of these seats maybe post a picture of what I’m supposed to be looking for? I might call with the local upholsterer guy who might have a better guess than me. Unfortunately there isn’t anyone I know of locally who is a specialist car seat upholsterer.

Sorry rubbish posting skills with the web browser!
The little tangs face forwards and downwards when the seat back is folded forwards. You need to bend them up a little then unhook the rear panel from them. On my seat there are 4 of them holding the back of the seat cover down. There’s a string cord sewn into the edge of the cover to stop it tearing.
Thanks for this, really good pictures ( I wish my seats were leather ). Mine are cloth and the tang must be so tightly bent in place I can’t even feel them with my finger. Try again tomorrow. There looks to be only 4 of them so now I’ll search in the regions I can see in your photos. I’m sure once I locate 1 I’ll be flying.
