    Dash re-fitting problem

Main project thread is here http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...=23127&page=13

The question I have is in the project thread but since not everyone is interested in it....

when I was fitting the dash in, to get the centre part to move in at the right height and line up completely I had to remove the driver's side bracket that should hold the back of the glovebox (driver's side of the glovebox that is). This fitted perfectly in the old car with the smaller heater/blower unit but the new car has A/C and therefore is a bit bulkier.

The bracket on the other side still fits but is right up against the blower casing

Any thoughts on this anyone? I assume i'll not be able to get the glovebox on now.

    cheers

    glove box

    hi
had a look on my 90 quattro with aircon

the 90 glove box is a lot smaller than my 80 avants
    its half the size
can you not get the cars donor glove box set up ?(from which you got aircon system)

also my 90 dash diamensions look slightly different around that area to my 80 avant

could possibly be disignchanges in year or by the fact it has aircon

    hope you get it sorted

    my 1/2 pence worth
    cheers
    john

Yup, you need an air-con glove box, they are totally different from the non air-con glove boxes and as John says above, half the size.
Mine has a funky type of double hinge to bring the glove box down and away from the heater/blower unit behind it.

Pretty sure it's the same. FA doesn't differentiate between air-con and non air-con, only colour differences on RHD models. Of course LHD had two different versions with the addition of the passenger airbag.

Strangely enough, can't find an air-con glove box in the FA, but 1000% different between mine (air-con) and my bro's (non air-con)

Things I do. Just had a run out into the car-park and compared my dashboard and my bro's (we work at the same place).
Nothing different "apart" from the bracketry for the glove box and a different cover panel that extends down from the back of the glove box to a slotted clip fastened to the bulkhead below the ECU.

Ohh - so you think the right glovebox and bracketry will work then ?

thank fek for that lads. thanks John and Jas for getting involved in this one.
The dash does seem OK without the additional bracketery (don't think that's a word but sod it) so If I can get my mitts on the bracketery (there we go again) and glove box itself i'm laughing. So teh question is.... is there a snowball's chance in hell of buying these bits without a full dash? they won't be different depending on trim will they? (looks up in a daydreaming fashion and tries to picture the glovebox)

And thanks for the carpark dash Jas. Much appreciated.

Absolutely, get an air-con glove box with it's funky dual hinged bracketry and bobs your neighbours labrador.
There isn't much difference with that cover panel either, bit of crafty fettling and it'd be ok.

Firstly, excuse the gearknob fetish, I've outed myself (that purple leathered TT knob is hideous isn't it )
Secondly, don't show fatty this thread, there's dust behind my glove box

You can also see how stupidly small the air-con glovebox is, can't swing a cat in there.

haha. i'll keep the purple leather fetish to myself mate.
cheers for the glovebox will never hold my array of baby related items, satnav and junk but it would close so that would be nice. Odd bracket/arm things. Let's see if I can find one now.

Well everyday is a school day - two sizes of glovebox ehh... And how many knobs does one man need anyway ?
