Here's why Eric is having such a struggle and what I was faced with last year too.

Nothing to get hold of the lift it up and out.
I went through this almost exactly 12 months ago. Got so frustrated in the end I had one last go at grabbing each battery post and heaving it up far enough to wedge it tight against the back so I could try and get a better hold. God knows how many times it slipped and dropped back down. Complete and utter ballache.
The Bosch Silver I replaced the original with, has handles on it.
    What a stupid design.

That strap above is a good idea, never seen anything like it here though.

Eric, go to a scrappy and nab two battery terminals, clamp to posts and tie a strap across???

Only looked at last post before posting !

So when it is out consider putting a section of a canvas shoulder strap from an old bag into the empty hole and then the battery in on top of it and when you next go to take the battery out will make it easier to extract the next time, similar to batteries in a child's toy or cheap radio.

Admittedly doesn't help you to get it out in the first place, but hey....

        HTmightH.

        Regards.

I think most of the new batteries have handles built in. But that is a good idea if you don't get handles on your replacement battery.

2 x jubilee clips on the terminals and tie a bit of nylon cord around them

Out and new one in <10 secs with 2 pairs of hands, ah well at least now I know the right sequence for bringing the c/locking and dealer alarm back to life, cotidie est a schola dies, as we say up here. Car now turnsover like a ****er with the 750 cca of the new battery , I guess the old one was getting a wee bit tired.

Still can't believe it was such a hassle/process to get out, made doing the turbo and the clutch seem straightforward

Thanks to all for their help and advice in my hours of need

                        Well done Eric.

Could you post up a "how to" on the Alarm sequence? I think I have the same alarm as you and have had a couple of minor issues with it when my battery has been flat, but nothing like your non starting woes...

                        Cheers,

                        Steve.
