My new toy! (Contains steering wheel porn)

Finally got my track steering wheel sorted out. Took the plunge and went for a brand new Momo mod 78 rally wheel. It's grrrrrrrrrrrrreat! Fitted it to the car yesterday and it's really grippy and just the right size. Just waiting for the correct fitting kit to arrive and then I'll put some pics of it on the car. Got it from RSM Motorsport for a very good price, cheapest place I could find for MOMO wheels.

Dude, i hope you are not going to fit it with those screws

Are you getting a boss that will plug into the airbag loom to stop the light coming on? Was thinkin of this myself but wasn't sure if it was available.

Cheers chaps, decided that I wanted the real thing, same as my Recaro Speed and I was very happy with that.

Not got an airbag so no problems for me. It's just that the standard wheel is a little too large and with 162k in it, it's a little schlippery when you're giving it some beans on track.

Screws were fine for a test run, only do them up to 6Nm so you don't need heat treated, ultra high tensile bolts in there! They're just ugly so waiting for some nice black hex ones to come in the post.

How do you find the suede? What diameter is it? I have a leather Momo and was looking to change to suede at some point.

It's a MOMO mod.78 350mm in suede and is perfect in the S2. 330mm was too small, looked redicuous and you couldn't see the dials. Standard is something like 370mm. Also, I'm 6' and quite broad shouldered and the 330mm was too small but the 350mm fits me comfortably.

If you want to save on a boss then the Volante wheel fitted to 80 sports and S2s has a suitable boss attached, just requires destroying the wheel to get to it and it's eccentrically mounted. I got my boss off Ebay for a bargain price but required a fitting kit at £5

Most rally and race wheels are suede for improved grip, road ones are leather as it wears better. To keep this nice and fresh I'm not planning on using it full time, oh, and the fact that on the road the S2 wheel is soooo sweet.

Rallydesign.co.uk do an OMP one for £98 delivered, looks sweet.

MOMO do ones with various amounts of dish. This wheel was £110 delivered from RSM, the MOD.69 with titanium spokes and slightly different grip was the one I wanted at £115 delivered. This is £20 cheaper than anywhere else I found and they were really helpful

If you wanna save the wheel, use gloves when you drive it. I assume you will be using it mostly on trackdays.

Very nice- have the same wheel (in leather) in my Mk1
(the suede will get tatty very quickly- BTDT)

Nice grippy tactile wheel- nearly as nice as the momo prototipo!!

Not too sure this 60's Italian design would work in an S2
