    Not so SunnyRoof

My Sunroof has just packed up workin, couldn't happen at a more convient time of the year, and the air con has decided to de-gas itself as well.

Anyhow, enough moanin , its the mechanism that has seized in the sunroof, so I need to strip out the head lining to gain access to the sunroof workins. Has anyone got any tipps on how to remove the head lining from a coupe, without breakin it, and tipps on refitting it . Help would be much apreciated.

Will it go up and down or just not move at all?

To get the headlining out there are two clips at the leading edge (nearest the windscreen that should release the hradlining backwards. Mine managed to pop of just using upward and backwards pressure. once they are unlocked you should be able to push the lining backwards then twist it through about 45 degrees then it should pull out (down) into the cabin. Failing that just push it back once uncliped and then undo the 4 star nuts which secure the sunroof to the frame, this should then pop up allowing you to remove it and then the headlining.

Remember when trying to put it back together again that there are 2 sliding pins that the rear of the lining is attached to the roof with so that with the roof on tilt that the lining goes up with it. They must be slid into place before the front retainers are reconnected, this is PITA but with patience will slide on. You cannot do this with the roof up - its impossible

When you think the rears are connected, press the button to put the roof into tilt but not all the way. If its fitted properly it will clear a drainage bar running along the rear of the headlining, if its not the DONT FORCE IT you will break it, just close it and try to refit the headlining again.

    HTH,

    Cheers,

The sunroof headlining will go back. to remove the main headlining is not a 5 minute job. most of the interior needs to come out I'm afraid, lower back seat rear side panels 'a' post cover, 'b' post cover and 'c' post cover. to remove the c post cover the boot side panels need to come out.

My sun roof never seems to go back enough.

Hope it is something simple and accessible.

Thanx for the help Dave and Dave

The Sunroof seemed to gradually stop working over a period of time. It was getting slower and slower, even when I greased the rails . It won't lift or slide now. I've tried using the manual overide, but its feels like the mecahism is jammed up. I'm going to strip it apart and see if I can free it up.

Well, finally couldn't stand not having a hole in my roof any longer, so have started (well attempted to start ) to strip the sunroof out. However, I am finding removing the head lining very difficult .

Thoses clips you mention Dave, are they on coupes??? My head lining appears to be stuck to the roof at the rear with some sticky crap . I have removed the a + c pillars, and am now investigating the sun visors?????

Anyone got a detailed explanation of removing the headling????????

          Help would be much appreciated

          Thanx Roo

The headlining is well and truly glued in place and needs to be carefully cut away with a sharp wood chisel or a stanley knife etc. the sunroof trim panel ( same colour as headlining) is heln in place by clips as David said. There is a reasonable picture in the Haynes manual of the sunroof and adjustments.. worth buying if you don't have it.

Is it necessary to remove the headling to remove the sunroof casette??

Also what sort of mechanism is the sunroof run by?? Cables??? Cogs???

              Is it a repariable item?

              Thanx for the help

                Yes most certainly

                I can't remember

                Is it a repariable item?

Yes I'm sure, it probably needs a clean and re-grease at worst a new motor.

I think it's a cable style system. Mine has not been used a lot and is a bit slow. Draws a lot of current, better with the engine running.

Just the steel/glass panel itself? If so then yes, I believe you can
There's various how to's on here but essentially once you've got the trim removed below the panel, you tilt the roof up and remove 6 torx screws that hold it onto the rails etc..

Lou, slide the roof back a bit, reach up above the trim from the windscreen end and spread the 2 clips and the trim will slide back into the cassette. Then you can tilt the rod up and see the torx screws, 3 each side.
A mirror and torch will help to see the clips and how they work.
