    Central locking clicking noise

I had the four door cards off my avant and since then each door makes a loud click sound when locking/unlocking. Has anybody seen this before?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

    At *every* door ?

I've had a loud clunk caused by one sticky mechanism in the past - but I cant think what single issue would make noises from *all* the doors... weird

      Ive had the same!
I took one of my rear door cards off to look at the speakers, and now on that door it clicks.
Instead of the locking knob lowering smoothly, it seems to get caught on something and then suddenly drops into place as if its freed itself.
Ive taken the card off again and made sure nothing is caught, but its still the same!
It did it when I swapped my interior on the blue S2 as well

Thats it exactly. At first it was only the two rear doors and while showing the problem to "David in Dublin" last night all four started doing it. So thats three of us with the same problem after removing the door cards

I know it didnt do it with the door cards off as i locked/unlocked the car numerous times throughout the day without any problems. Only thing i can think of is the door locks would all have got pushed down with the door open while trying to refit the door cards. You know the part of trying to get it lined up with the hole before you push the door card down.

Going out to pull one apart again and see if its anything obvious...

Have it apart and the problem is inside the door latch mechanism. When ever the lever is moved from the locked or unlocked position it binds up, then releases with a loud click. Tried everything from locking and unlocking with the doors open and closed, both manually and with central locking. Even tried turning the child locks on and nothing makes any difference. Dont know what to do now, i dont fancy dismantling the door latch...

Scratch all that, the problem was me attaching the cable to the door handle in the wrong position. Check out the pics and you will see what i mean....

Common mistake! I've done it myself but realised when opening the door from the inside that the door pull didn't feel right, took a while to suss it out.
