coolant temp gauge issue on s6

ever since ive had this car the temp gauge has never moved from below 50'c,i have changed mtfs, coolant temp sensor and swapped the clocks over from a car which had a known working temp gauge but still no change.I am thinking it could be wiring issue but i cant find any info on what voltage/resitance or whatever i should be getting from the pins on the mtfs connector?any ideas?

If you changed the MFTS but the new one didn't change anything, I would suspect the thermostat is stuck (broken) open. You might want to read this UrS4/6 thermostat diagnostic post (below) and follow the Climate Control Diagnostics link inside it. (Ch. 51 tells you what the coolant temp is at heater core).

BTW, if it was the G62 coolant temp sender you changed, that is only for the ECU and has nothing to do with the gauge.

That's all right James, the weather up here isn't any better. Whenever you can manage is good enough for me.

I changed the stat last week as it happens as i could tell it wasnt heating up like it ought to be,mpg has gone from 13 to a mighty 18, still not great.Ch51 was giving 73'c max before the stat change, now is getting 85'c.So is that read from somewhere in the heater unit then?i thought i read somewhere that it was coming off the g62?

I changed the g62 as vagcom was actually giving a code for it,now gone since fitting a new one.

By the way, what does this mean in the left panel when trying to pull codes?the lcd display has no missing segments btw,i was hoping it means no codes stored

When you get the horizontal g3, g2 and g1 CC segments lighting up at the same time, it means everything is good (no codes) as explained here:

The G62 only supplies the ECU with the coolant temperature, not the gauge and not the climate control. The climate control temp sender is the blue one in a black plastic "T", near the back of the head, as shown below (More info here: http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4s6/msgs/22679.phtml )

What are the pins in the plug like? If they are scabby you get issues, also peel back the rubber boot, where the wire joins the pin can go funny.

The plug and pins/wires is only a few quid from Audi.

MFTS boot can fill with gunk so the pins in the connector rot away

only just got around to having a look into this problem(hasnt been on the road since xmas).Found out that the wrong mtfs sensor was fitted, the one in the car was a 4 pin which requires the 12v supply to pin 4.My loom was designed for a 3 pin sensor(its a last of the line s6) which doesnt have power to pin 4.I always thought all these cars could be fitted with either 4 or 3 pin but obviously not.Anyone know if this is specific to the last of the line s6s or are any aby s2s like this?
