    Windows steaming up

I have noticed with the cold weather that the windows in my 1993 ABY S2 Coupe steam up a lot and I can't seem to demist them.
This morning I had to sit for about 10 minutes until it partially cleared.
Then driving along the road I had to use a cloth a lot to get rid of the condensation. Then when I returned to the car later that night I noticed that a lot of water had appeared on the inside of the windscreen.

Is this a common problem with the Coupe?

Also I have tried to find a way to fix this problem by going to the local DIY shop and get something that can soak up moisture but they don't have anything like that.

Has anyone been able to solve the problem (if they have had it) with their car as it is beginning to bug me now?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Your heater matrix is leaking or aircon drain water pipe is blocked or the rain gets in the car. Perhaps from the bonnet cable seal.

I have only noticed a small amount of water near the rear taillight underneath the small container and I dried this up straight away and it has not came back.

Where do I locate the heater matrix and the air con drain pipe?
Also are they easy to clear myself or do I need a specialist to do it?

drain pipe is on the duct near the ECU on passenger side and has a drain pipe thru the baulkhead.

Also worth checking pollen filter is ok and that the lip on the cowling near windscreen is fitted right or water can drip in there.

I am afraid Greg is right. I had the same just a week ago and noticed that the pollen filter is totally wet. Obviously at replacement they misplaced the lip of the plastic cover and the rain was dripping in continously. I mended this with a tape on the rubber-to-plastic edge and it works. Very annoying I could say....

can also be sunroof drains, but bonnet cable grommet as porrkis suggests is favourite for me, BTDT

should be able to tell by feeling the floor and tracing it

we stock high quality cable grommets at work for the navy etc so i used one of those, much much better

they are about 10p if anyone wants one

Bibby, he has a coupe, of course he has a leak!

Mak, take a look at this similarly nemed thread:

I bet you have damp underfelt as well.

                Good luck curing it.

My windscreen and side windows also steam up, even after new pollen filter, which is well sealed. Could it be the leather seats holding moisture? It only happens in cold weather, ie Nov - March cold evenings.

I thought leaks came as standard with Audi Coupes.
Can't find anything in the brochures though.

LEather seats dont cause it to mist up. The car is clearly holding water somewhere. Maybe in the rear or front. Check the carpets are dry, if they appear to be dry lift it up, you may find that the water wont penetrate theplastic backing on the carpet

Well, I think it's another one to add to the Audi S2's "strange happenings" list!

I too have been getting this steaming up problem - Never had it before either.

It took about half an hour for my windows to de-mist on Saturday night (and the rear didn't de-mist at all!). And because it took so long for the windows to de-mist I couldnt drive off. And because my heater's a lil bu**ered, it won't heat up untill the car is moving (strange) and so me and my mates all froze our nutsacks off!!!

Why do we all put up with all these problems!?!?!?!?

If you have a greasy film on the windows which is difficult to clean off then your heater matrix is leaking, I solved this on mine with a bottle of Wynnes sealer in the water. Been ok for about a year now.

Could be the rear light seals leaking if there is water in the boot. Mine did that untill i removed the whole lot from the back and re-sealed them. Took about an hour to do the lot. Just make sure youve got plenty of silicone sealer and that the surfaces are clean....HTH

you should never use anything other than the propper stuff, especially not silicone sealant!!!
