    Interior door cards retrimming?

I had a talk today with a local shop to do my door cards on my pretending rs2, which have all 4 perished their internal foam and the leatherette is bagging and dropping off.

Apparently the door cards are in one mould and hence the job to make the new leather/alcantara/ material in general to stick back in place is very difficult and takes long work hours, to the point that the shop wasnt even keen to touch the car. If the mould was in 2 pieces, ie the part covered by the leather could come off, then the work is dead easy as you take it apart, attach the leather/foam all the way to the back of the door card and reattach the 2 pieces together to last another 15 years.

As it isnt so, i was quoted that the work hours and materials to use proper leather replacement, im looking somewhere close to 160GBP per door card!!!

has anyone had experience with these bits and is that actually true?

Wrote to audi tradition as well, just in case they had those in, and they dont have them in stock, nor will they be getting them. So since i know this CAN be done properly, has anyone any thoughts on how to proceed?

    thanks

I think pat d put a thin sheet of ply or mdf , covered that with material and attached it to the door card . Looks spot on

Can't see why it's so difficult, sounds like the trimmers were saying no because they wanted to rather than the car being actually difficult.

My bespoke interior has all door cards retrimmed in green leather
It appears to be stock black cloth underneath and green leather applied over it
Must of cost a fortune ! Seats obviously match too

That's one way of doing it. However mine are completely perished their foam so they need stripping and doing them from the bare plastic

It's not very hard but takes some time, patience and know-how's.
First you have to remove any old foam from cards, glue on fresh one (using glue or there is foams with glue already on like stickers), approx 5mm thick and then glue on cloth, leather or anything you want using spray glue. It's PITA to cut the cloth in right size and place it properly because it needs to be done quickly and precisely with glue sprayed on. If you misplace it, most likely you must throw it out and cut a new one.
              Here's my works:

I have retrimmed 3 sets of B4 cards, one set C4, 3 sets of B4 pillar covers and lots of headliners. I'm not working at trim shop or anything, just tried and successfully did it.

Nice work, feel a Group Trim coming on.

Love the sun blind in the rear door card.

Any photos of the back of that door card ?

                Thanks for sharing.

Brilliant work there mdz. Are you folding the edges of the material back on itself to create the rounded appearance?

The ones with sunblind is from my dads A6. Don't have any photos of backside, but it is the same as regular card except with sunblind bolted on top. It's OEM part btw.
Here's that same card before i got my hands on it

Nuvo - i'm folding it into that gap all around.

Did my own on the s6. Drilled out the plastic welds to seperate the door cards into two pieces. Glued on alcantara and then bonded the two parts back together. Took about 1.5hrs for each doorcard.

How did you bond the 2 together again? Glue or screws?
