    Quick question on boot seal

Just bought a new boot seal and now the boot lets in more water than before, had a look today and I noticed that the small holes in the seal are facing inwards is this right or have I fitted it wrong and they should face outwards.

Mine face inwards and I think that it's correct.

Water getting into the S2 boot often has nothing to do with the seal.

Often it gets in round the lights between the light unit and the body.

Even if the car has had a knock and been repaired well there can still be micro cracks where the panels meet and once the water finds a path it never forgets!

In my case it was getting in at the top of the screen where it had debonded for about 2" then it travelled inside the interior plastic trim down to the corner and ran inside, but cunningly it left the rubber seal wet as a red herring for me.

I came close to resorting to the absolute cure for a leaking boot- park in garage and only take out on dry days!

      Yep they do face inwards!
If you have not resealed your rear lights in your ownership then its a good idea to start with them. Use the OE mastic stuff.

When I open the boot you can clearly see water sitting on top of the seal on both corners and when you press the seal water shoots out through the little holes into the boot, when it rains next which should be quite soon here in overcast wales I will post pics of the seal.

Check the stoppers aren't keeping the boot higher than the seal too.

might need to adjust the lock carrier to pull the boot lid in tighter

I have been meaning to seal the lights now for the last two years bought the stuff of a forum member back then but keep waiting for when I get a full respray and then have them re-sealed when they refit the lights, thing is for what I have spent on parts this last year I could have had two re-sprays or one by Quattro coachworks but hey the bodywork ain't that bad so keep putting it of but deffo having it done this year.
