Thanks a lot Martyn
Could you access this from the passenger air filter or the central dashtop airvent grill if removed ?
The alternative is a hand up the back from the footwell ? or as the windscreen needs replacing could I access the area at that time.
As you can see i would rather not remove the whole bl**dy unit !!!!
Cheers

With the windscreen out you'd be able to access it (I think, IIRC, will check tomorrow on my little project car ) with the top vent out, you'd be just poking around in more heater/air ducting.
Still think the expanding foam idea is the way to go

Alastair, here's the picture. See where the blue arrows are, they are under dash fixings that hold the hot air channel to the underneath of the dash. In the picture the 4 arrowed were broken on this dash so this one would rattle too! If you remove the centre 3 vents you will not be able to access anything, its not that simple. The only way is to remove the dash which is a PITA to do. I don't see an easy route to a fix......
Now the rattle is still there when the dash is hot (sun or heater to windscreen). I refuse to remove the dashboard. I do however have new front speakers to fit. Looking at the picture I should be able to reach the vents. If so what would be the best way to secure the vents at least partially.
Ideas please and nobody mention touch up pens
