    OK, took quick measures:
21,2cm outer width of the bracket
21,7cm metal front parts of the RNS-E

But - if I assume cutting the right away just at the most right buttons of the RNS-E
I have some frame avaiable at the left of the display. I think its the way skaala has done it.
I don't have the very small torx an cross-screwdrivers to dismount the bezel to have a look whats behind...

    Anyone btdt on a RNS-E ??

Having a very close look at skaalas pics I tend to see some space right of the buttons,
may be its just a press fit?

Accidently found a box with 21,7x22cm width..
It IS a press fit. The inner walls of where this all goes are weak - just like the dashboard all round.

@Jamo, mine is just an ISO->RNSE plug spaghetti adaptor without any special circuit like this:

          http://cgi.ebay.de/Plug-Play-Adapter...item483b138f71

          we will see..

Now I'm going to reduce the width of the bezel, at first some try cuts on the outer edge to find the right tool..

            Success!
With a small bow saw i cutted along the inner plastic that surronds the metal very close, using it a a lead/guidance.
Then i used sandpaper to round the edges - easy job, just be patient.
This got me a total width of around 21,7cm as expected,
and as suspected it IS a press fit you notice some little space left and right of the buttons.. is ok for me.

As you see its a test fit, the GPS cable is hanging around.. At the moment I don't know what will go into the gap below, the A/C controller will move to the aux gauges, this will be step 3. Step 2 is getting radio, nav and GALA running..

What's the width of the outside of RNS-E unit now modified to fit in the S2 dash?

The overall width of the bezel which has to fit in the dashboard is 21,7cm, as mentioned :-)
You could get to 21,5 with more patience than i had this morning - maybe I will fine-tune it again with sand paper..

Now i just need the PIN - got the wrong one

In the meantime I will investigate what should me connected to the three connectors at the back of the unit, that all look like GPS ones to me

Up to this point, easy job. What i definitely have to do is integrate some supportive bracket in there - at the moment the navi is just pressed between the 'walls'.
The fun begins with the cables - it seems i have only the ignition+, not battery; and there are no ground connections in the speaker ISO Plug of the adaptor, GALA and CAN(?) will be a separate topic..

that does look nice. I have a custom made case to move the buttons from the main dash, next to the handbrake. I have never got around doing it though. I would also go for car pc instead but.. enough with the upgrades!! haha

a/c will go down, removing the useless ashtray should give the required space for a/c and the aux gauges, have seen it somewhere..
