Nice setup! what do the Magnat 6.5" components sound like mate?

I have a Magnat 12" Sub and it has a right kick. At the moment i'm trying to decide what 17cm speakers to install in the door builds - either components or 2/3 way

ICE just slows you down. All that weight... I have no need for big assed speakers and amps in the car. As Martin says - the best sound system is under the bonnet...

I'm actually looking to replace all my audio stuff in the car with an elegant amp that I can hook up to an iPod. I have no need for radio reception - its all ***** in this country - all I need is my iPod and the hundreds of CDs that can be crammed into it.

The other advantage would be having a nice DIN sized hole in the centre console which could be equipped with auxiliary instruments such as EGT, Boost & FPR. Much more useful in my opinion.

      Just my 2 cents

Totally with you on everything (especially mounting guages in the head unit space - there are some nice 3 x 52mm gauge units out there)... except for the radio reception! I couldn't travel as effectively without the (RDS) Traffic Announcments. The radio shows themselves are indeed not exactly high quality, which is why the MP3/WMA head unit with 200+ tracks on it is excellent.
          Ck.

They don't sound at all bad for the money. I had a set in my previous car and was impressed so went for one of the higher versions for the S2. I put them in the front because the previous butcher, sorry owner had cut holes in the door trims and glued, yes glued, some MB quart midbass in the holes.

Even more comically the tweeters to match these were actually inside the doors. I found them while extracting the old wiring. First I found a crossover and then dangling on the end of the wire was a tweeter.

The tweeters are fitted in the holes were manual window winders would be. On the back of the door card there is a circle marked ready for cutting.

The headunit has a trick DSO (dynamic soundstage organiser) which makes the sound appear to come from higher up than the doors.

The next bit will be the DVD setup so passengers can watch DVDs on the headunit (audio from IR headphones while I have the radio or cd player on or through the main speakers for showing off). I'm also looking at something like the HKS CAMP to display boost and EGT on the headunit.

                    Ben

Jamo, not an S2 owner but a slipper owner of an A6. all standard stuff in mine.... Audi concert head unit and 6 cd changer tucked away nicely in n/s/r of boot! Sounds pretty damn good enough for me! Some of these ice systems can be nice but like it has already been said... the best stereo is under the bonnet! My old WN 1.9 used to sing!!!! Old git in next village waved his walking stick at me on more than one occasion!!!
A6 Avant Tdi 110 because as the fuel prices keep going up I am so happy to be getting 649.8 miles to a tank of diesel!! (£50)

All we need now is someone to use the words 'bling', 'radical', 'innit' or 'phat' and this thread will be complete...

Sorry but ICE just does my head in - I can't get excited by it - as much as I love music. Kinda weird huh ?

Ma system iz da bomb man, i has all de honeyz checkin' my ride. Easy now.

I am planning to finish the boot off by mounting the amp flush with a false floor and that will be all. I am not into neons in the boot or any of that crap, just a simple high quality install.

@ Paul, I would like to think that you would change your mind about High quality In Car Entertainment if you hear a good set up. It really can sound a Thousand times better than even a good manufacturers standard system....
