My new 7" touchscreen, and ICE installation....

I have made some changes to the sound system in my audi S2.

I have mounted a hertz 3 way component system, including a tweeter, 4" for the dashboard, 6.5" for the door. For subwoofer i have mounted a 12" Phase Linear ALIANTE, and to run this i have installed two amplifiers in the trunk (no pictures yet).


I have also installed a 7" touchscreen in the center console and therefore moved the radio and climate control down under the steering whell. The computer is mounted in the passenger side where the airbag normaly is.

Running windows XP, with mediaengine 2.1.5 (it uses winamp) on a mini itx board via MP9000 ( i think) 933 mhz cyrix processor, 256 mb ddr ram, 40 GB HD.

Jonas! Looks awesome mate! I thought I was the only crazy person to have done this to my car! Yours looks very similar to mine, however, very different at the same time. I haven't moved my climate control yet, I've been thinking of moving it to the center console under the arm rest, where you have USB ports. check my set-up out sometime and let me know what you think Jonas. I still need to resand and resurface the surround at my screen...but pics can be seen here: http://www.nononsenseaudi.com/albums/Stereo/index.htm

I can say from mine that the camera brings out the glare moreso than in person.

The behind the screen you will find the normal cables and so on. The computer casa it self is mounted behind the black panel, where my cell phono holder is.
And yes the computer is connected to my headunit.

It is the pictures, i used the flash when I took the pictures. The screen is very good in daylight and you can see everything perfectly and when it gets dark here around 21.00 it automaticaly dims all part off the medianengine skin.

Guess your not the only crazy person to do this
Putting it where i have the usb/ network would be smart, however you will proberly have to lenghten the cable for the climate control, and i can tell you that it is a bitch doing that, 25 little cables on mine. Later i found out that you proberly get the normal climate cable to actualy reach all the way down to the place where i have put it.
But i like yours looks cool with the buttons, i decided to simple not use my buttons, since the screen auto adjust. Have you painted yours or what is that surface? Looks really cool and i like the armrest, pretty cool place to put the computer and a lot smarter to acess the computer then where mine is.

But iam looking forward to the realease of medianengine with integrated gps navigation via destinator 2. That is going to rock

yes, my climate control has 18 little cables within the flat ribbon cable. I know it's going to be a pain in the ****, but that's where it will go until i figure out how to control it via parallel relay board on my computer screen.

I made the surround from bondo...and it was the first time i ever worked with bondo, so that's why it's not perfect. then i sanded and painted it with a paint that would wrinkle. i wanted to go matte black but i like the wrinkle effect, and it masks imperfections better than the matte paint would.

I too am looking forward to the integrated GPS because right now i use MS Mappoint and it sucks. oh well...

Good luck with your computer. I'm on mp3car sometimes when i need info, but not often. i go by the same name there.

Thats cool, i would loke to do something like that one day. I think as the technology gets better this will become common place in cars. Is it possible to use a PDA as the PC??? Would this be capable of controlling a screen like that?

A friend of mine has found a supplier for din size PC's that will fit direct into the radio slot (double din also available)
12V
1ghz processor, choice of 256 or 512mb ram, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 80GB hard drive, slot loading cd or slot loading dvd-cd/rw
Front Access:
2 USB (V2.0), 1 Firewire and 2 Audio ports in & out

Just need to put a touchscreen screen in your car which cost around 150 and away ya go!!
