Good thread Rusty, I'm looking into this at the moment. Would love to fit it myself (so I can actually get a tidy job done ) but getting a cert for it will be the tricky part I think
Might have to check out the difference in insurance between a self fit and a certificated one. Seeming as Thatcham are the industry regulator, it might be worth speaking to them directly.

Self fit and certificate all the way. You know what's gone in then and can disguise it as much as you want and make a proper job. Just follow the guidelines for approval. Online somewhere or a friendly alarm place can advise.
Things like a section cut from ignition wire and plug shield on the unit and connectors and main unit mounted secure.
Had Installs done by various places. I'm quite fussy about neatness but the workmanship by alot of places is horrendous. mix and match wiring, cable tied units, insulating tape, burns, bad joins and even bullet connectors... use tesa cloth tape over the stock loom and alarm's. Stops squeaks and creaks and looks oem.
Its a re-boxed Toad Ai606 without additional outputs. Fair bit cheaper. And ive had good experiences of Ai600 and Ai606 alarms.
I also have all the fitting info for B4 cars so if required i can e-mail it to peeps

Sigma are good. Similar to toad and alot of options interchangeable. Pretty good and simple but still have all the security features you want to bolt on. Small fob too which was a plus for me. Can't stand a big bunch of stuff swinging around.
Southern car security are good. Speak to miguel. He will sort you out all the bits you need and give you good installation tips.
yep, Sterling are good. Am running one of their Immo's as a replacement for an old Toad. Been in since 2010 without issue.
Cant see the point of an alarm though...when did you last twitch the curtains when you heard one I had one across the road on friday night going off intermitently for over 2hrs never even got out of bed
