  • vcds can gateway and new stereo.

A mate has asked if i would install a rcd310 stereo to his 04 touran,
No prob i replied. He then mentioned that he would need to change the can gateway to avoid battery drain issues associated with the old can.
I looked it up and its a simple job of unpkugging the can gateway and swapping for the revised version
However its the vcds bit that seems to be glossed over.
It reads as though you view the itens installed on the old gateway.
Once the new one is in you access the installation list and select the various options as per the previous gateway.
Has anyone done this and am i on.the right track or barking up the wrong tree?

Been there done that. So you put the new CAN GATEWAY and you code it to the options that car has. ( you can make a print screen before you remove the first one).
OR you can update the firmware in the old CAN gateway. I did this on an 07 plate Jetta.

Any chance of a step by step guide? It looks like you open the can installation list of old gateway and save the option list . Then once nee one is in you open it. None of the modules will be highlighted so you need to tick the varoius options.....
