  • Audi RS2 oem rear active speakers

Hi everyone. Hope someone can help me out.
I've recently retrimed all door panels in my car to cover the holes former owner did to install afermarket
    speakers.

I have all the original sound system components: gamma cc radio, front and rear nokia speakers and would like to reinstall everything.

The original wiring seems to be complete at rear of the radio but when I get to rear speakers I'm not that sure.

Mine looks like this. A 5 pin conector and 2 pin conector for tweeter

But the active speaker has 3 plugs. Searching in internet I've found pictures pictures with all of the used.

Anybody knows wich one is for RS2? 2 o 3 conectors?

    Thanks

For others who wonder in the future...
It seems active speakers only require 5 pin plug. The other is for non active.

Have a look at this diagram for GAMMA with ACTIVE speakers on AVANT - http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schematics/B/B92.PDF

Shows use of 5-pin plug on main rear speaker (R15/R17) with a 2-pin connector to the tweeter (R14/R16)

      Pinout as follows

1 +12V permanent supply (fused by S4 - same as radio)
      2 Audio input +ve
      3 Audio input -ve
4 connects to warning buzzer (J152) if radio (or lights) on with key removed & door open
      5 0V earth

Then see this link for PASSIVE speakers - http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schematics/B/B93.PDF

Note the rear speakers still use combination of 5-pin and 2-pin plugs but that 5-pin is only wired as follows - this allowed them to use the same loom from head unit to speakers I expect and just fit active rear woofers when the option was requested.

        1 not used
        2 Audio input +ve
        3 Audio input -ve
        4 not used
        5 not used

Actually - ignore the comment about the possible common loom - I see the passive loom is different.

I see from the pics the confusion caused by the 3rd plug… this is probably a classic Audi wiring 'feature' where a 2-part connector makes up the 5-pin plug that is shown on the schematics.

Unless the active speaker pictured with 3 plugs is not from S2/RS2 ?

              Thanks for the advice.
I'm almost 100% sure the second pictures with 3rd plug used are not from a RS2.
It seems all the loom left in my car is ok. Once reconnected and switch on the radio I can hear a "click" in the rear speaker but there's no sound.
When hear closer to it a buzz is audible from the tweeter but nothing at all from the main speaker.

I suspect the speakers are dead. But both?

I've read that sometimes there's a wire exposed that gets rusted. I've made a bridge with new wire with no success.

I've also read that rears can be plugged to the front to check if they work properly. Is this true?

Suggest to temporarily connect other speakers directly to the rear outputs… are you sure the Gamma head unit is still alive ?

Seems strange but that is the same as my RS2...Fronts all ok and working as they should but just a hiss from the rears when the volume is turned up to maximum.I thought my speakers where blown?I need to get time to look into it further.

I guess the answer is to remove the rear main speaker unit and temporarily connect to the working front speaker loom...as Paul said above.

Yeah - exactly - get any working speaker and make up a temporary cable to check the rear outputs are alive - do this at the head unit first then at the rear loom plug. A couple of small crocodile clips would be enough for a quick non-invasive test.

If you get a hiss then the speakers are not blown. The hiss is the sound of the amplifier with no signal input. Have you checked that the "Fader" control is not panned fully forward? Do you have the signal cable connecting the head unit to the rear amplifier?

Yes, I have checked the fader and the same signal wires from the back of the radio are present at the rear conector.
The hiss is only audible from tweeter. The big speaker doesn't sound at all.

I hope tomorrow can find some spare time and try conecting them to the front loom.
