Nope, leave bumper, arch lining and all that jazz on the car.

i used the spliter to make things easier, where the track rod end fixes in to place, i used it to pop it out there, i guess as you are replacing the end, you could just try using a hammer to knock it out.

I would also note that the nuts that fix the track rod ends on seem to be quite soft, i had to replace of mine as the thread in the nut just came apart, its not a standard off the shelf nut either from memory.

Where did you get the adjuster part from? its not available on its own according to ETKA, so i had to make do with the original ones

Good advice here so far. Only thing has been missed is that the lock nuts aren't all right-hand threaded. I meant to notate the details when I had to adjust mine last month.

Some have to turn clockwise (as you look at them) to loosen them - its cos of the funky way the adjustment bar is threaded to allow for correct movement.

If you are not aware of this, you can be swinging on the locknuts all day long - tightening them and damaging them when trying to loosen the boogers.

Lets just say lots of WD40 is required as well. These things rust up a treat. The advice for lots of copper grease is well placed !!!!

BTDT Yes I forgot to mention that. I actually sheared the adjuster clean off thinking it's was seized to excess
Whatever you do don't do this as you can't buy them without the trackrod arm. I had to source one from another car. Much easier when you do it for the second time.

Another tip I've seen recommended is making a rubber sleeve from a length of inner tube which you cable tie in place over each greased adjuster. This will help keep any crud out and should prevent it seizing. Not tried it myself, though it sounds good like a good idea to me!

IMHO This is well within the capabilities of the home mechanic . I guess you're concerned by some of the questions posed by Ski. Like any unfamiliar job, research, ask questions and put into practice. That's how I do it anyway.

Exactly Ive done my research and now will try it.

Im not doing this because im trying to save some penny's, im doing it because I love mechanics, but I dont know much about mechanics.

to build up my courage, I dismantled and put back together this a couple of hundred times

So id love to start tinkering with s2 just need to ask a million dumb questions so i dont mess her up

                      Edit : Dam speling againn

The droplinks can be replaced while the car is jacked up. Doesn't need to be on the floor as the ball joints spin to position correctly.

The other thing to note regarding the track rod ends is that the nut that holds the track rod end to the strut is not a standard thread. It is m10 x 1mm. Not sure if this is fine or extra fine. I had to cut one off as I couldn't stop the joint spinning with the nut. I've got some stainless ones if you need some. These aren't normally available and were specially made. If anybody wants some, let me know.
