Im struggling to find info on what's involved in replacing bolts for studs and nuts on S2 hubs .I just hate fitting wheels back on ,trying to align discs moving about,spacers and then wheels that is dropping and scratching new paint on the caliper

I did this on mine years ago, makes life so much easier. You need something like this, with nuts to match your wheels i.e. taper or conical.

There should be a heavy duty plastic version of the above 'tool' in your OE tool kit along with a short 10/13 mm spanner and a double ended screw driver, studs are a much better option, though much more expensive for a decent quality set with both nut types. I use to run studs on my 3B S2 but now carry two of the OE plastic location tools instead in the kit's in the boot's of my cars except my RS2 which has studs as stock. I have a few of the plastic ones if you'd like one for the cost of postage.1989 B3 2.0 3A 80 quattro... Budget 1.8T Project.
