Alan, the RS2 springs are the same as aircon S2 avant springs. i.e. no lower. Its only a suggestion but wait and see what RS2 alloys with fresh dampers (if needed) feels and looks like.
Lower springs can ruin the ride with firmer dampers for some.
Colin Chapman (Lotus founder) always said firmer dampers rather than stiffer springs. He knew a thing or two about handling IIRC.
Alan - you drove mine on H&R's,
Avant's run 'green' springs.
Yep cheers i did give yours a run up the road Pete i forgot you were running them, bit distracted because i was falling out the seat in the corners not for much longer `hopefully` eh

Alan lets be honest here.

I replaced my lower H+R's with standard S2 (Avant with air-con) springs all round. The car handles so much better than before and I've got much more confidence in it when I throw it into a corner.
Ask yourself why the H+R kits are so cheap in comparison to the Audi originals. Quality usually comes at a price...
The H+R springs could easily be compressed by hand when off the car - the S2 ones wouldn't budge as they are much firmer.
Think carefully before making this replacement. (Note - I did NOT say upgrade!)
H&R's are variable rate springs which is why you can compress them by hand (well the progressively wound coils at least), they have to be to allow enough free length to reach the spring seats on full travel and yet lower the car.
Dont think the price of the Audi springs is anything to do with quality at all, you can get great springs for not alot of money and crap ones that are expensive imho - its all down to spring rate not cost.

I've had my H&R's fitted new in March 2005. One is knackered already.
It's got slightly deformed, so the back end sits about an inch lower on one side than it does on the other. On closer inspection today, 3 of us concluded that they had possibly been fitted rather gashly too. The setup hadn't been rotated such that the ends of the springs met the stops.
So either it's the fault of install, the immense weight in my boot, or they're just sh*te.
Don't get me wrong, the setup with Koni's, alloy top mounts and subframe bushes, poly wishbone bushes and RS2 front and rear ARB's is great. But I won't be buying H&R springs again.
