  • Steering Rack Leak

After parking up yesterday after a rather spirited drive, I could smell what I thought was the clutch and then I could see smoke coming through the bonnet vents.

A closer inspection showed a leak of hydraulic fluid out of the top plate on top of the steering rack. This had leaked onto the inner CV which had thrown it against the side of the engine block, hence the smoke.

The two retaining bolts are tight. Is it just a case of the old 'O' rings needing replacing?

It will most likely be the o ring that’s worn Steve

There are two seals, the centre bolt is the pre-load adjuster and there is an o-ring on that. There is a seal under the plate too.

I've only looked to get the 25x2.5mm one, which is the one under the plate. It would be a good idea to replace both though.
