Alternative to ‘91 coupe 7A 20v 2 channel power steering pump

I have a ‘91 coupe Quattro with a failing power steering pump that also assists the power brakes. It is a 2 channel vane pump that gets leaky & fails every 6-7 years.

What are my options besides a rebuilt pump that has become impossible to find.

The single channel pumps on the 12V V6 are a lot easier to find. How can I convert to this design?

is there some electric option that can replace the steering pump & steering rack?

Error 404 here sells a servo conversion kit and you replace the pump with the single vane pump. Search Ultra Performance engineering.

Our tandem brake booster conversion kit allows you to fit a modern and much more powerful tandem (dual stage) brake booster to your S2 / RS2  or other B3/B4 platform car. Our kit includesServo adapter bracket machined from 6082 T6 & hard anodised to 40μmExtended pedal clevis machined from ‎34CrNiMo6 / 4340 / EN24T & zinc di-chromated for corrosion resistanceHigh tensile booster fixingsM12x1 SAE brake line fittings for 4.75mm / 3/16 (standard size) brake linesBrake fluid reservoir level sensor connector & terminalsFixings In addition you will need:A suitable tandem booster, master cylinder and reservoir. We supply new TRW (OEM) parts to complete this conversion.Suitable factory boosters can be taken from the following model platforms: B6, B7, B8, C6, C5 RS6, C6, C7, D3.Please note that there a HUGE number of different variants aross various markets and territories; it is not possible for us to provide fitment confirmation of every combination - therefore we strongly recommend choosing componets from the C6 A6 platform due to availability, low cost and gauranteed compatiblity across all territories. It is important to take the booster & master cylinder from the same model variant - mix & match combinations of components is not advise as not all are compatible. Special information for RHD UR quattro ModelsWe have a speciic kit to fit right hand drive UR quattro models: RHD UR quattro Tandem Brake Booster Converion KitSpecial information for RHD S2/RS2 ModelsPlease note that this kit does not fit the RHD S2/RS2 with standard intake plumbing and requires a reverse (front entry) intake manifold in order to provide adequate space for the brake fluid reservoir. In addition, fuel lines in the engine bay will need to be relocated and bracketry removed.Other RHD B2/B3/B4 platform models may have similar space constraints and consideration should be given to this. If in doubt please send us some detailed information and photographs of your installation and we will be able to advise you.For reference, when using our TRW master cylinder and booster the total installed depth from the nose of the master cylinder to the bulkhead face is 276mm.

Problem there is it's out of stock! I'm still waiting on a crank locking tool to become available again.

Yes, it's out of stock. Any leads on the two channel PS pump? No one has it.

Looked at it, thank you. Two vane pumps for all models are unavailable everywhere I look in US. Does anyone have one for sale?

If you can find one in the UK, I'm happy to post for you. I take it you want new? Second hand are quite common here as they were fitted to quite a few 80's and 90's.

As Audicted suggested, you'll need to search search search. Best bet is to find someone breaking a 90 or CQ 20v.

Call 2 Bennett in CA. Be aggressive. Ask them to find you one. They have good visibility into when and where B3 projects are going and might connect you with a client.

I recently went through this. I was fortunate and found a guy nearby in Indiana that had a pump from a CQ he parted. I was able to use parts of his and mine to rebuild a good one.

There are many folks that switch to vacuum but that also requires a good amount of work and sourcing parts.

I'll keep searching. I have had the car since new and this is my 3rd or 4th time replacing the pump. I didnt have difficulty finding a pump 7-8 years ago. The car is my daily driver and I have no intention to get rid of it or demote it to a weekend car.

What's the simplest way to convert to a conventional vacuum boost system? I found a lot of fragmented information.

Thank you, everyone! I really appreciate all the good advice!

I have a B4 vacuum booster coming in. It is 9" diameter. Do I need to move anything out of the way to convert my braking to vacuum assist?

The more you move, the easier it will be!

I did it a long time ago and can't remember the exact order of accesing it. I do remember needing to get an m10x1mm blanking plug - the low pressure return line from the bomb is obviously no longer there and, you need to fill the hole.

I 'think' i took the throttle body and large air hose off, its not difficult and as I get older / wiser i tend to prefer making life easier and a lot quicker in the long run by giving myself the best access possible
