    Wheel bearing

    Hi all.
On S2 wheel bearings, what retains the bearing in the casting? I would normally expect a circlip to retain it, but there's no groove and no circlip! Any help greatly appreciated!

So it's just pressed in, and there is no way it is retained in the upright? So long as I haven't missed something, then I'll run with it!

Nope, no circlips no nothing. The bearing is just pressed in. Also, remember to install the bearing the right way round. The inner race of the bearing is stepped, the larger diameter must face outwards.

Anyone know the torque setting for rear hub nut please? Replaced my bearings and i found the front setting 200nm plus 90 but as bolts on rear are smaller I wanted to check the rear torque setting. Thanks

                The M14x1.5 bolts are 120Nm + 90°.

On many S2 hubs the wheel bearing is actually retained by an interference press fit rather than a circlip, so it can look odd if you’re expecting a visible retaining groove. The hub casting is machined so the outer race is a tight fit, and once the driveshaft/stub axle and retaining nut are torqued up the assembly effectively clamps everything together. The important thing with these bearings is making sure the housing hasn’t worn or spun, because if the fit becomes loose the TBS bearing can start moving in the casting and damage it fairly quickly.
