I was under the car only to find a rubber gizmo on the side of the front springs which looked like soething to limit the compression of the springs. Are these factory things or just added on?

Needless to say the ride got a bit smoother after having these removed. I wonder if any of you have seen these hard rubber inserts that stiffenes the front springs. Obviously there should have been time to remove these since 19th march 1996 but no one did. At least I had the experience of a "new car setup" when I pulled them out. Hmmm......
Thanks again David

The whole purpose of the forum is to help others. Potentially there is the sum total of 5 cylinder Audi/ S2/ RS2 in the internet forums. Audi have hundreds of development engineers. they also have thousands of post production engineers.
I bought my car after the previous owner had crashed it. The blocks still in his suspension could have helped the accident happen.
I thought that they were meant to be there and spent a long time looking in scrapyards for some more!
There is a similar thing for leaf springs called a spring assister ( helper) I thought it was the same.
