From what it sounds like I will be picking up a pair of these shocks for on the front of mine in about ten minutes so will try them in the housing before I drive them down to where the car is and let you know later today.

          Mine is a 91 3B with chassis code M.
Now you come to mention it there was some white plastic washers with the dampers, but there was no mention in the instructions of them so I din't use them.

Right picked mine up earlier and thank god 4th time lucky they was the right ones.

Got the 2x shocks, 2x metal rings for the top of the dampers in between them and the caps for the leg, new nuts and 2x plastic rings for the adjustment. Sounds like you might be missing the metal rings that space between the damper and cap

Will try get some pictures of the whole kit before I go home as at present still in hertfordshire.

Its the 1991 3B (M) which is the oddball. The comments about 7A and UR with Konis just add to the confusion as they are different struts again.
They aint the same BTDT the thread size for the bolts are different M12 vs M14

                        Final update:

As I said earlier, I DID have the spacers fitted, but even so, my Konis were too short.

The spacer is not a flat washer-like disc, but it cups the end of the damper and holds it in the centre of the strut tube. The spacer is supposed to sit 1 or 2 mm higher than the top of the tube, so that the top cap clamps down on it.

My spacer sits below the top of the strut tube by around 1.5mm, making the Koni around 3mm too short

The cr@p Koni instructions suggest taking a hacksaw to the top of the strut tube to remove between 3 to 6mm, thus making the spacer proud, but that means removing the start of the threaded portion which I REALLY don't like.

The white plastic washer is supposed to go around the piston of the damper, under the rubber boot and seems to be a scrapper or protector of the damper seal. I would suggest that it should NOT be fitted in compression to hold the damper in place as it is thermo plastic and therefore has little compressive strength.

The car is now back together and drives very well, however I know that there is a bodge washer in each strut tube and I REALLY don't like that.

At the same time I also fitted Pro mounts at the front and mount savers at the rear so I will post a seperate thread on how the car feels with this set up, when I have covered a few miles.

                        Cheers n

You wouldn't have to bodge it if you bought the superior 3B model

All that dizzy whine, lack of overboost, missing 5th gear, awful airbox and undersized wheels (for 996 upgrades) put me off

Exactly what it is, to prevent the bump stops from damaging the shock seals.
