    I'm not really sure

The single page Koni instruction sheet is very vague. It shows the plastic disc under the bumpstop gaitor, around the damper piston and is a tight fit, hence my assumption that it could be to protect the seal in the top of the damper body.

I too was wondering about the plastic ring, first thoughts was it was just to use to guide the adjustment but the instructions are rubbish and now 120 miles away from me.

I reckon maybe it stops the rubber gaitor from dropping down, so the rod stays protected and the seals last longer.

Just ran into this problem same as Si, Koni with its top spacer sits 2-3mm below the top of the strut. I think the spacers is the best solution, i dont want to cut the strut any shorter or the cap will screw onto the rusty threads that have been exposed for years. So anybody know where i can buy fancy curved washers?

Got it sorted, found some washers that do the job

If the threads on the strut haven't badly corroded it would be easier to cut the strut. Or for a more elegant solution fabricate a new spacer ring for the Koni. The metal ring with the Koni has an OD a smidge under 50mm, ID 41mm, and a Height 10mm.

            Mark.
