    Wishbones & Wishbone bushes

What is the advantage of running the cast wishbones over the pressed steel type?

My fwd coupe is suffering knocking due to worn front w/b bushes. It has the pressed steel type w/bs.

I've got a pair of cast front wishbones with decent bushes in, and also have decent bushes in the pressed steel wishbones on my CQ project car. I plan to poly bush the CQ soonish, but wondered if it was perhaps better to take the good wishbones off the CQ to replace the duds on my fwd coupe, then poly bush the cast arms I have knocking about and bang them on the CQ?

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I'm under the impression the Superflex bushes are the ones to go for - but that the pressed and cast wishbones require different bushes?

Can anyone help me with the right superflex part number for the cast and the pressed type arm bushes?

    Cheers

I changed mine over to the cast versions, cant say i noticed any real difference. The pressed versions will flex more, and i have heard of them cracking in places.

The cast arms also have larger bushings, currently running the Powerflex bushings and its nice and tight. Some people complain about noise and issues with them squeaking when they run dry but i havent had any issues yet.

As far as I know, Superflex don't do bushes for the cast type, only for the pressed, whereas Powerflex can supply both sizes..... (although I may be wrong...... )

ÂŁ40 a set of 4?? thats cheap mate
The Superflex were looking at just over ÂŁ80 for the 4.

So the verdict on Powerflex is that they are much improved now?

personally found with everything refreshed on mine and changing to the forged arms that there is more direct steering and feel. Could be a total placebo but to me at least it feels more 'together' than before

i'm just wondering if there is any point in going to the trouble of keeping the forged arms really, its for my CQ, so never going to come under enough stress to break them (i hope!) but i can't wait to poly bush it, its made a HUGE difference in every car i've dnoe it to

I personally would go forged out the two, just looking at the quality of them compared to the pressed, plus if your going to "bush" a pair i'd just do that, bigger bushes for same price would offer slightly better dampning i'd have thought.

Just fit the forged as tbh I found them better on my car, s2's are fitted with them (afaik) and they look like they will last a lot longer than pressed and are getting harder to get hold of.

i think it will boil down to how hard it is to get the arms off the cars really
from memory they are an ***** to do with where the bolt is "inside" the subframe

Lmao, very very easy to remove, just use a (iirc 17mm or 19mm) drop head spanner on the bolt inside the subframe and same on outside then it just drops out literally.

Go for the cast. AFAIK they only fitted them to late model S2 and RS2's so they must be better

Hmmm I thought it was early s2's and they changed to pressed on the late one to cut down cost? All 3b's i've been under (can't remember about david's) had them and so did my 20v quattro sport.

Still never know with audi and there mix and match, parts bin special cars.
