350mm is as small as you want to go IMO, I tried a 320mm and it was stupidly small!

Just been out for a drive and the steering feels noticeably heavier at slow speeds than higher speed. I'm running more negative camber than factory specs, so this is probably not helping matters. I'm wondering if the S2 has a quicker rack than my CQ.
Mine is 3 turns lock to lock.

I'd love a mod to be able to reduce the assistance, as the stering feel plays such a part in handling confidence - i know the car will grip, it just doesn't feel like it will!

S2 has a higher geared rack than the CQ, its a fairly straight forward conversion, provided you use an ABY rack. I cant remember the turns lock to lock, its been a while since i compaired them. Ratios are 16.8:1 for CQ20v and 14.5:1 for an S2.

I'll be installing one into mine when doing the engine conversion, i picked up a new "audi coupe rack" on ebay for £100, quick part number check showed it was for an S2

I suspect that is an S2 spec rack as the US market never got them.

I unplugged my servotronic relay a couple of years back, my steering seems to have gone really light just recently though, weird, it turns in too easy Maybe the rack is giving up the ghost..

not sure if they do a RHd unit, but they do start with a new oem unit then replace the parts iirc

                    so it's possible??

Alex, if you are down at ADI you can have a drive and compare steering weight....I know the ABY is heavier weight than my old 3b servotronic though, but still lighter than even the Audi A6 bus i have too.

Some debate about this on motorgeek

We've been testing a short ratio steering rack that will fit any 4kq/80/90/Coupe, etc, instead of about 3.5 turns lock to lock, it has about 2.5 turns, the result is a rack and steering response that feel more like an EVO than an Audi, any interest? We can produce more, the cost is $800 each...

No confirmation on if it is or isn't an S2 rack

Wouldn't the 034 be LHD one anyway?

Thanks for kind offer David, I won't be there unfortunately
I'll probably keep an eye out for an ABY rack for when i do my engine swap next year, Sal had one in a shell he weighed in a few weeks ago, if i'd known they were different i'd have nabbed it

I emailed 034 a while ago as quite a few other people seem to have done, to see if they would do a kit for a RHD car, but the said no. I guess the rack and pinion inside the LHD abnd RHD cars might be different and not interchangeable..

GB on getting a quick rack kit made anyone?

Just for reference, I got my ABY rack from a genuine audi parts guy on ebay.....keep an eye out, I originally saw one for about £100 then ended up buying one for about £200 (from memory) and was brand new

At one point, 4Rings had one for £160 new too, but they couldn't find it to ship ....might be worth seeing if they have dug it up by now lol

                            Cheers

AndyP paid a stupidly cheap price for a rack from Sal, worth asking around as well.
