    Advice: RS2 Suspension

    Hi,

The suspension on my RS2 is has some corrsosion on it which we have wired brushed off and then given a light coat of waxoil.

In time I'd like to refresh some of the parts maybe through scrapped vehicles and so I was thinking about which suspension parts the RS2 shares with the S2 and other Audis?!

However it may be better to go new through vagparts so that the car has new fresh parts rather than older parts which may be starting to corrode anyway.

    Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

    Thanks

IMHO as long as the parts have only surface rust you are better off refereshing used parts with high quality rust-proof coating like POR15 - much cheaper and will last longer than new parts.

      .

Shares the platform with the b4 avant q...and the early A4q's for other rear sus parts.

Major components should only be suffering surface rust...refurb s/h bits and then it's a bolt off and bolt on job.

      HTH.

Thanks for the help and advice guys. I guess the best thing would be to find a place to store the car while the main suspension parts are removed and treated. Are there companies out there which specialise in this or is it better to find a friendly mechanic/do it myself?!

This might be a project for the Spring once the salt is off the roads!

        Cheers

These guys can provide you with all the diy consumables you might need for the home refurb.

If you ask a garage they'll probably think your mad to 'refurb' parts on a 10+ year old car.

There's plenty of peeps on here that can advise, far too many loons that like everything on the car to be shiny silver coloured...you will become addicted...

Nothing wrong with shiney silver coloured bits

Seriously though, get the parts off and stripped down, get them bead blasted then paint them up with POR15 - longest lasting & best protection you could give them

Many thanks for your help and advice. I know what you mean about addictive. The wife's not really talking to me as last weekend I spent most of it removing a variety of screws, bolts and washers underneath the bonnet and soaking them in a rust removing solution in the bath. It was really satisfying to see the gleaming result afterwards and as a bonus sleeping in the spare room means I can keep up to date with the forum and top tips when it gets too dark outside!
