    Solid Top mounts slipping

    Hi Chaps.

after driving around with a loud clunking sound at the front (getting louder and louder) I noticed the centre adjustable "NUT" within the QRS solid top mount un-done itself or slipped a couple of threads not sure. Either way when jacked up I could lift the wheel and notice the top mount move half an inch under the bonnet. Tightened it back up and job solved, no more clunking.

However, its happening again. (1 day later)

Any BTDT? do I need to replace it or just use more power when tightening it?

top mount has (from outside in):

    an outside oval adjustable peice
    inside bolt/nut
    very center allen key bolt

Its the inside bolt/nut which keeps slipping. (I cannot tell if its unscrwing itself, or jumping screw threads.

    Any idea's ?

Isn't the nut a nyloc one?
If so and the nylon insert is still good then it certainly shouldn't be undoing itself. I reckon change the nuts and check the threads too.

The versions i have seen didnt have a nylon nut, or any locking mechanism. Also check the ball isnt worn out on them, mine were done for after a few years.

What about getting a lock nut to go on top? (If you have enough threads left)

They are standard Metric threads are they not?

        Cheers,

        Steve.

just run some locthread/nutloc round the thread before tightening up.
should be no rattling loose afterwards
