Severe wheel hop on full lock at slow speed

    Evening everyone.

I'm having some issues with the front end of my S2.

Over the last few months I have replaced the following componets

    - Nearside lower wishbone complete with new bushes
    - Nearside lower ball joint
    - Top mounts
    - Track rod adjuster bars
    - Track rod ends
    - RS2 drop links
    - Superflex anti roll bar bushes

Today I got the car aligned. However, on the way to BMTR in Birmingham I basically could not use full lock. I got a friend to look at the wheel whilst I was doing a 3 point turn and the passenger side front wheel was slipping/hopping (in the same way it would if you span the wheels) and putting loads of tension through the steering. This happened during left and right turns and not happening to the drivers side wheel which makes me think that it's not diff related.
    It feels and sounds terrible.

Anyway, the car was aligned and it feels much better and doesn't seem to be doing it on the way home (got stuck in the M6 traffic being diverrted through Birmingham) but I'm just really confused as to what it could be. I did think CV joint.

    The before Measurements were:

    Left Front Right Front
    Camber -0º55'-1º21'
    Toe- 1º22' 1º28'

    Left Rear Right Rear
    Camber -0º23' -0º44'
    Toe -0º05' -0º02'

    The after Measurements are:

    Left Front Right Front
    Camber -0º49' -1º22'
    Toe 0º05' 0º06'

    Left Rear Right Rear
    Camber -0º21' -0º49'
    Toe 0º12' 0º10'

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I seem to be going through the same handling woes as a lot of people on here.

I can also reccomend BMTR although it did cost me £92.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like camber and toe that where out by what you described above.

I had the same once when i replaced lower ball joints and tie rod ends. A decent wheel alignment should always sort that out though..

    £92 is steep!

    Hope its sortted now.

Check your tyres - I had this with worn fronts and new rears.

had this when my alignment was out. almost definitley down to how your alignment was. too much toe out, one wheel is dragging the other sideways slightly on full lock. look at your tyre side for scratches to see how bad it was.

              Agree with Ant... Toe out...
              Check the alignment again!
You will destroy the tires running like this too much.
              Goodluck!

Wow, never thought that a misaligned tyre could cause that. I will take the car out this morning and see if it is still doing it but the new alignment seemed to have done the trick yesterday.

The tyres are all fine, only about 5000 miles on them.

Thanks for your advice, I'll keep this thread updated with any findings.

mine does this too, thinkin alignment as this would be much worse on full lock.

                        Dan,

saw this once, on the top of the steering rack where the two 13mm nut/bolts ( go through bracket and join) one of them was loose/moving, worth a quick check , put a spanner on them and check the bolt and nut aren't spinning together (not always finger losse if you know what I mean)

OK Eric, I'll check them tomorrow, thanks.

Just been out in the car and it's still doing although not as bad as before the alignment. I'm going to check the torque on the top mounts too as I guess once everything settles down thigs need re-tightening.

Ok, took the car out and athough it's a lot better, on full lock it's still 'hopping'. I had a look at the nuts that I could see with regards to those on the steering rack but they all seem tight. Access is horrible though.
With reference to the attached image, can anyone point out the areas that I should check.

                            Thanks again

Its uncanny this thread has come up, since I changed the subframe bushes I have had a similar issue, alignment is to be done in new year and will see what its like
