The steering arm is 23mm exactly. The new joint has to be 23.02 to get an interferance fit. That is the difficult part....

Think like this; the joint has to be able to rotate and articulate, thats why a rubber bush was used. Stiffening up the side to side movement is good like your nylon idea but no good for easy rotation (as the suspension moves up and down) don't want to stiffen that part as it cuts down the feel.
Yup that makes sense - with the nylon idea I didn't see the rotation as being a problem if it was machined correctly - like a polybush in a wishbone with the bush rotating around the central steel sleeve which allows easy up and down rotational movement but little else, but I guess if it stiffens up the rotation it wouldn't be ideal like you say

I've got a set of old rear tie rods in the garage - i'll try and remove the inner end bush to have a look over the next couple of days

i did my own.... front and rear. i am thinking to redo the front inner mounting. there is a plate that traps both joints, just not in the pictures. in re-thinking this step, i think having the inner rod ends be vertical instead of horizontal would work better for a road going car. mine is drag race only, so this car does not matter as that is concerned.

but this is what i have done. notice since now the tie rods are on top of the strut mount point, and double-shear loaded (trapped between two mount points instead of up thru the bottom) the inner rods i raised as well. when the car sits flat on the ground, at ride height, the control arms (wishbones to you guys?) and the steering rods/tie rods are parallel. that is a good thing....

dont know yet how they feel when driving, but its a pretty solid setup pushing the car around the shop. again, this is just what i did because one of my inner ones fell apart.

      and the rear.

Greg; if you asked that of me, the rear set complete i am in it less than $200 USD complete.

          the fronts maybe $100 USD.

www.colemanracing.com has the swedged tubes for tie rods for very cheap.

          http://www.colemanracing.com/catalog...p?cPath=49_721

i used on the rear the tie-rod stud things from the 034 kit. got my own rods, and heims. thats about it for mine. i have the link at home for a good, inexpensive high-misalignment rod ends, ~$20 USD each IIRC.

                Small update,
I have finished the prototype and will be fitting it in the morning!

Not heard from my bearing supplier as what they can get hold of.

Spacers are needed to get back the original width of the rubber bush.

The only way is a secret! Hope you don't mind but I have spent a bit of time on these and want to be able to sell them, I don't want to make a fortune just, don't want anyone trying to do this my way and making a mess of it and the whole idea gets a bad name...

I will report in after my drive home! :mischeif:

Yes they fit! cheekky sod! And more important steering feel is improoved! I need to get another set done and on to someone elses car for some testing/feedback.

I am still resurching better bearing manufactures, the better the bearing I start with the less time machining!

                          Will have more info soon!

I have two of them just lying around, turbo side is brand new without bushing.
Could send them your way if you cant find someone local.

For the record, i have seen 23.04 mm outer diameter / 11 something inner diameter bearings if thats of any interest.
