you can cut the strut tube down,
then make a collar which you can cut a new thread on with a lathe to slide over with a recess so it sits solid onthe top of the tube
then weld round the base of the collar
i had to make a new caps for mine when i made my coil overs so not that hard to generate that thread on the top of the strut housing

Look at the 80 competition suspension tops mounts, the cars were utterly slamed and the mounts moved up and back I think (there is a thread somewhere with piks)
