  • Balljoints.

I started on changing all my wishbone bushes yesterday, and decided to renew all the balljoints whilst im there, the rubber boots on the rears had split. So ive ordered some from ecp. Anyway before i order some for the front was wondering if there is 2 types for forged and pressed w/bones? ive got forged fronts.

    cheers

Martin they seem to be the same part number for both.

Don't forget to get your tracking done!

Yeah, did see that on etka, on the list of parts on vagparts site they have 4 listed in total for the front, doesnt state part numbers though.
When its all done i'll get all the alignment checked.

a good tip for when youre changing them.....before you remove the old joint....take some chalk or white-out, and mark the bracket where it lines up with the end of the control arm. then mark the same line along the new one, and install it so that line meets the control arm the same as the old one, and it will help keep your alignment as close to how it was beforehand.

          Hi Martin how you doing?

The two arms, forged and pressed, they do not have the same parts.

Here's the low down on both:

          The forged arms:

          Balljoint LH side: 895 407 365A
          Balljoint RH side: 895 407 366A
          Wishbone bushes: 893 407 181 x4 in total

          The pressed arms:
          Balljoint LH side: 8A0 407 365
          Balljoint RH side: 8A0 407 366
          Wishbone bushes: 8A0 407 181 x4 in total

Completely ignore any parts listing that says X type is fitted to X year etc. You have to look at what arm you have fitted, then get the parts to match.

so should the early 3b's (mine) have pressed fronts?
are the rears all pressed on all models?

                confusing or what!!

just no way of being sure Martin! not on the fronts! all the rears are pressed as far as I'm aware ( i bet someone has fitted aluminium fronts on the back though!)

                  WELL confusing this one!!

Not as bad as A3 seat base side plastic trims though!! but thats another story!!

                  :-)
