    PAS pump noise

    Hello,

have used the search but did not really find a simular problem to mine so here it is.

My pas pump is making really loud whale kind of noises when i turn the steering wheel.
On cold start there is no problem, it only begins over a few minutes.

I had this problem since i left the car and had the steering on full lock to the left.
Stoud there for a couple of days like that en when i wanted to use the car again it started making these noises.

First i thought i was air in the system so i turned the wheel a couple of times from left to right. But then the reservoir overflowed.

Could it be the pump has just had it? power steering still works, it's just the noise.

Hope you understand my weird explanation, but it's the best i can do in english.

    It's a 1991 3b coupe

Try a little wd40 on the belt to eliminate it from the equation. Otherwise, drain the system and put new fluid in is another cheap option.

It's definetly the pump thats making the noise.

Will try the wd40 on the belt and if it doesn't help i will try with new fluid, sounds like a good idea

It will be the pipe with the restrictor in it. the one that runs from the pump to steering rack.

And how can i tell that it's really the pipe and not the pump?

Makes a moaning noise when you turn the wheel, just about silent when not turning.

When the engine is at idle and i don't turn the wheel there is no noise.
When i do there is of course.
But when i rev the engine a bit and i turn the wheel it is quit sillent.

Yes! I tried having Pirtec (hydraulic pipe maker) remake the pipe but they can't seat the internal restricter pipe...
I had to get a new one.. ouch!

So is there a way to check the pipe? and does anyone know the price?

Maybe a picture to make sure i change the correct pipe?

Nothing to see, it leaks internally.

                              Thanx for the info GT500.

Has it maybe failed because i left the car on full lock and maybe the pressure in the system was then to high?
