I'm after approximate lengths of springs, on the car and under load please. It's not too easy but I've measured my blue HnRs and get approximately:-
160mm Front
180mm Rear
Free length:-
310mm Front
280mm Rear
Compression:-
150mm Front
100mm Rear
These translate to about a 635mm rideheight (to the arch) with 225/45R17s, compared to approximately 660mm as stock. This is slightly skewed by different top mounts and removing the rear trim... I'd expect a further 10mm lower on a back to back test.
We know from previous threads that the spring rate of coupe HnRs is about 200lb/in so
Front - 150mm compression (6")
6 x 200 = 1200lb = 545kg
Rear - 100m compression (4")
4 x 200 = 800lb = 363kg
Total = 2 x 545 + 2 x 363 = 1816kg
A little OTT but then that does not take into account the variable rate and as the front springs are not quite completely bound at the base, this will make a difference.
Lloyd's thread here suggests that the pre-bound rate is aboutr 130lb/in so using that figure
Front - 150mm compression (6")
6 x 130= 780lb = 354kg
Rear - 100m compression (4")
4 x 130 = 520lb = 236kg
Total = 2 x 354 + 2 x 236 = 1180kg
So, assuming a combination of the two spring rates, the stated deflections and rates do seem to be about right.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I could do with some more measurements from HnR owners and also from people with OE springs.
