I can't see that the dampers would change the ride height? I know they have a certain amount of gas pressure, but you can push any shock in by hand so the weight of a car would overcome differences with no notable ride height difference between brands.Comment

Koni shocks have shortened shock travel over OEM RS2 / S2 onesComment

That stops the shock bottoming out for sure, but the ride hight is set by the spring which sits between the turret and the wishbone, i.e. Koni in or no shock at all, it should sit at the same ride height...
Unless I am remembering wrong and the spring sits on the shock itself on the rear?Comment

spring load, on oem shocks springs won't be under pre-load due to the excess travel on koni's the spring will be under pre-load prior to shock travel. That stops the shock bottoming out for sure, but the ride hight is set by the spring which sits between the turret and the wishbone, i.e. Koni in or no shock at all, it should sit at the same ride height...

Will allow the spring to uncompress further and affect the ride heightComment

When lowering a car by 40mm>, you really need to use a shortened shock otherwise you will shorten the life of the damper as it would always be under compression. Running a shortened shock also prevents the spring from coming free from the turret or top mount on full rebound.
A standard shock will always be under some compression when used with a shortened spring, this in turn will have the effect of limiting the spring from compressing as much as it would with a shortened shock.
It is perfectly normal to see a drop in ride height when using a shortened shock for the above reason.
I would also expect the stiffness of the shock could also have an influence on the ride height.Last edited by Nuvo; 23 August 2010, 12:26.Comment

I dont have a problem with it, i've never been aware of any bottoming out or hopping around on bumpy roads. If anything the lack of suspension travel at the front is more of a problem, you have to watch for big bumps and really slow down for speed ramps.
Only issue i had was fitting the 18's, with 15mm spacers the tyres rubbed on the rear wheel arches. Went to 10mm and it was fine, closer to what it should be anyway as i think the difference in offset is 8mm with the Avus wheels.91CQ20v - Gone to a new home
