HR coilovers. he thought they were not leaving much room for height improvment( the HR coilovers). Their highest setting was something like 40mm lower than OEM already!

FK were better and a bit softer than HR in overall rating (according to him).

I saw this thread http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35918 change

Looked a good setup but is different to your "clubsport" version
I dont know the exact reason, but kw's seem to have a trend of bending and leakage, and if this is user fault or not, it is a known problem. There is ofcourse exceptions here aswell. Maybe its our bad road conditions? The set you linked to is a regular h&r set. Never tried it myself. breitling Do not run kw anymore either. If you would use your avant on trackdays, get some coilovers with thick rods, sadly Kw do not have thick rods on their v1-3 versions. Sorry about all the negative focus on kw, but as ive seen many people buy Kw sets, many have been disappointed in the end. You dont want to buy the wrong coilovers when they are so pricey.

feedback is feedback if you know people that run it and have ditched it because there no happy or had problems then im glad you said something. maybe to some people with deep pockets its not that much but when every decent set of coilovers is nearly 1k minimum it needs a lot of thought and effort into what to spend your hard earned on.

The thing is I cannot find any links to the clubsport coilovers, the only ones listed on the website for the rs2 / avant is the ones you say are regular h&r sets

What is the difference between the two?

Tein are jap crap, they don't last and leak after a few k miles on the road.

Custom made, Bilstein, Ohlins are the only quality options IMHO.

They are more track focused though?, Not interested in track days so my setup is "fast road" focused

Thats the problem with coilovers dude. They are not really designed for road use. IMHO you'd be better off with Koni / Billies inserts and custom springs to get your ride height / rate how you want it

If you got some custom coilovers made up they could match the rates / valving to your useage but IMHO realisticall a decent set of coilovers that can survive road use is going to set you back £2k+

good coilovers can do both easily, it's the ones with silly spring rates that are for track only.

It's why at the moment i'm leaning to KW after advice from Carsten, it's just interesting anders saying he knows a lot of kw going to H&R

its the quality of the units themselves that stands the test of time on the road IME, you can spec the right spring rates etc for road use, but its the quality of the damping components and the valving that you pay for that makes the difference.
By design coilovers are race components at the end of the day whatever you get will be a compromise on the road

Same goes for lowering springs, they are generic one fit for all cars which does work for me in this case.

Having seen how many Koni shocks need refurbing a good coilover be no different, most issues with coilovers stem from the fact owners lower the car far too much with them!

Is custom coil overs an option as that would allow use of tried and tested shocks, ie koni or bilstein, and whatever spring rate/length you require?

with custom you can have what you want! only your budget gets in the way i personally believe there must be a coilover kit out there for less than 2k that you'd be able to play with to get the right settings for personal use ie some people enjoy a harder riding car personally i dont mind a harder riding car but if it was too crashy it would annoy me.
A friend runs kw v1's on his coupe but its not a quattro and i was impressed with it when i went out in it.

for what its worth dude, my bilsteins have completely changed the handling of my car and would go with nothing else....i too am not after a track bias spec suspension and it gives me the best of both worlds..firm but not too hard....

I can only speak from experience with my old Golf Rallye. It came with H&R's which were ok but were quite old and started knocking over heavy bumps. So I bought a set of kw v3's for it and the difference was amazing. They were very nicely sprung and damped and with the adjustment could be hardened up nicely for the track. On the softer settings the ride was superb on rough roads.

I ran a set of FK's on a normal golf and I thought they were very hard, more of a budget option. I haven't had the pleasure of a car with something like Ohlins so would say that the KW's are the top brand for the price.
