Steering rack non-return banjos - problem / thoughts?

Started my car up today after fitting ABY steering rack and loads of other bits. Got a problem with the PAS I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is but not 100% how to sort it.

When i fitted it I used RS2 banjos on the rack. Something should have twigged at the time but brain wasn't engaged i guess. The FA called up 2 x non-return banjos for the rack, same part number. The same banjo for the inlet and outlet to the rack.

Now when i start the engine and the rack sees pressure, it forces the rack out to its stop on the passenger side, very forceful cannot then turn the wheel back to the drivers side. Pump also gets hot within seconds so shut engine down. Very difficult to now turn the wheel back towards drivers side and will not go past dead ahead.

Since i used 2x the same non-return banjos on the rack, seems like fluid (pressure) can enter the rack but not get out, hence forcing the rack over and then starting to overheat the pump.

So...... I need to replace one of these rack banjos - I think it needs to be the outlet back to the reservoir? I have a normal banjo to replace it with - just really sanity checking that this all seems logical before i go skinning hte **** out my knuckles changing it!

    Cheers for any advice

Your logic seems fine to me, fluid from the rack should flow freely back to the reservoir.

i suppose my only concern was which way the non-return valve functioned.. but since the rack seemed to be seeing pressure, i guessed it must function in terms of allowing flow in the direction of the thread rather the hex head if that makes sense.
Going to go and fight my way through the back of the engine bay and try and change it.

That is an odd one, looking in the parts system the S2/RS2 has two one way banjos and the CQ dosent have any. I wonder if thats a mistake, would make sense for the one way valve to be on the high pressure inlet side only.

Well I've sorted it, the FA is wrong! Only 1 non-return valve on the inlet side of the rack. The outlet should just be a normal banjo as suggested.
Now got PAS fluid all over my lovely clean subframe, driveshafts and gearbox though

Are you sure you didint pressed too much the small pin where the steering column meets the rack?
Iff so..the distributor inside will be opened only on 1 side.
Dont asq me how i know..
            All the best!

You dont need to dismantle the rack to press that pin in too much. Dosint make sense with those banjo's...Hope you get sorted!
                Regards!

With the return pipe blocked....will not push the rack to 1 side only....the pressure will be distributed equal...in both sides...i think
