    Spring rates audi s2 coupe

    Hi

I have H&R coilovers kit on my s2 coupe, but i want to upgrade to harder springs.
Have anyone done this before and know the spring rates and dimensions on the original H&R springs on the coilover kit. Maybe someone tried with different springs and know what works best?

My car is too soft on the track

    KW are ~400lb front ~360lb rear (70 & 60N/mm IIRC).

The Yanks go for 650-700lb springs from what I've read. I'd go the same all round or slightly stiffer at the rear.

If you've got some then get the numbers off the springs, otherwise you'll have to ask them. I asked HnR, Eibach and Apex for BMW E30 spring rates and they all told me

I`m currently at work offshore, but I`ll contact h&r once I get the numbers off the springs.

Who`s the best supplier for this? I live in Norway so I guess it has to be a abroad order anyways

The stock setup is stiffer at the rear. Helps with the understeer too. HnRs are stiffer at the front and do understeer more IME.

What do you mean by calculated? Did you sent them corner weights or somit?

If you've completely stripped the car then that might be the case but 10% is a big change over the stock setup on a stock or partilly stripped car.

Spring rates are a matter of driving style and preference. If I were going coilovers on a stock or partially stripped car then I'd start with the same all round at a minimum. I find the S2 is a blunt tool and needs some proper inputs to get it pointing in the right direction. I'd prefer to do that with springs that my current ARB upgrades but until I can afford it, it's staying as it is...

ideally you want the car to be neutral, ive been in a stripped out coupe with 400lbs springs on the back and on the front with a 7A front ARB mounted on the rear and an rs2 one on the front and it was dangerous, slight kink in the road and the back end was trying to overtake, incidently the car had a VERY bad roll some weeks later after id said it wasnt safe,

unless you have a massive wing on the back or more weight then 400lbs on the rear is too much IMO,

last time i ran my car i had 400lbs springs on the front, 7A coupe HnR springs on the rear, handled mint, put 20kg in the boot well and it was even better

I`m currently running h&r coilovers kit, aluminium subframe bushings, uniball top mounts, powerflex bushings in the wishbone, stock roll bar in the front and whiteline on the stiffest in the rear. The car is stripped for all nois damping mats and all original wiring, but with a roll cage so I guess they neutralize eachother.

The car is still struggeling with understeer :O

I've got a 25mm RARB and it's in no way dangerous, suggest there was something else awry.

If you drive a stock S2 in a certain way you can get lift-off oversteer, it's a function of the rear geometry changing when the rear lifts, it goes toe out and makes it more pointy, conversely, it goes toe-in under power so is more stable.

If you're suffering understeer then try stiffer rear springs or RARB and get some sticky rubber, it really helps
