Power Flex rear diff mount install

    Fitted new diff mount today,
Read mixed reviews about these so though I would try it as my one was shot.
Got the allen keys out no bother but the bolt through the mount proved to be a bit of a cow
Had to cut both ends of the bolt off with a junior hacksaw attached to a pair of molegrips.

Removed the metal ring after the rubber fell out

Never got a chance to try it out today so will be giving a good drive tomorrow

clunky if there is the minutest bit of slack in the drivtrain It'll transmit some extra noise into the cabin but at least its fit and forget. I have a spare oem on here and I think I might well go back to that in the summer. Feel its a bit too harsh for normal use unless everywhere else along the prop, box and snub have been upgraded too.

just my 2p from 6+years of use.

Will let you know what I think, ive got banbridge engine mounts fitted and gearbox mounts still to go on.
I find ive changed my driving style to compensate for the dodgy mount so it will be good to let rip
Also was thinking drilling the 3 holes in the mount bigger or drilling 3 new ones might allow more movement?

I fitted a powerflex diff mount on mine whilst renewing the subframe bushes and wishbone bushes. All in all the rear felt tighter and more in control.

IMO there is a tiny bit more driveline shunt on and off the throttle with the PF mount, but it certainly is not a problem for me as long as you drive relatively smoothly and are not jumping on and off the throttle.

I worthy upgrade in my opinion. It does tend to highlight a sloppy snub mount though, which I might take a look at next....

          Cheers,

          Steve.

Mine keeps coming loose, I think it's more of a function of getting enough torque on it though, rather than the product. No issues with 4 years of ownership, no idea what extra noise it adds because it's not something I care about much TBH.

I believe the optimum 'Fast Road' and occasional track day setup involved keeping OEM subframe, gearbox, diff and engine mounts and only changing the snub diff and snub engine mount.

I've got an Apikol rear diff mount and a front engine snub from Andy (Rusty).
The only tweak needed was fitting a rubber (not poly) bush to the front snub mount.
              (lasts and lasts and lasts)

You basically get all the OEM comfort and silence when cruising motorway etc but then when you accelerate or decelerate hard the sub mounts come into play to reduce excess movement and eliminate any rear diff slap. You get a tight on off throttle response and all the comfort! Win Win Try it

              Added: Subframe

i've got the Sq snub on mine and it still shunts....could be tired box, or diff ring but theres a clunk/lash regardless. In terms of 'noise' its the little bit of extra vibration is introduces as a result of fitting it...though could also be due to the fact i have alloy submounts too

I agree with David, IMHO if you like a smooth comfortable ride don't bother. I just removed mine for a decent qualioty OE one and gear changes and on/off throttle changes are loads more pleasant. The PF mount accentuates the taking up if any play / lash in the diffs as you load / unload them, since the torsens have quite a bit in the way of inherant lash between the gears its not something you would ever get away from IMHO. interesting, maybe mine is from the torsen then, hadn't considered that. Would make sense though given i'd changed all mounts and at the time the prop too and it was still there...

Grab the prop and see how far it turns either way with the car in gear, you might get quite a shock, I did.

Re shimming the centre diff are we now? Or do you reckon even a "new" torsen by design will bang with the poly bush?

Did you fit a good secondhand one or do the golf engine mount thing?

nope, did consider it but after JP's findings not going to bother.. to be fair with the rear torsen the car is perfect in terms of how i want to put the power down on the road.

but yeah i think the PF will always thump a tad, its just too stiff. I had a decent condition OE one i used.

I need to replace my rear diff mount bush, in fact I'm thinking of replacing all the bushes on the back end over the Christmas break.

If a powerflex diff mount bush is too stiff then does anyone have the part number for the OEM one? Is it still available from Audi?

                              Thanks
