    Disaster, almost

WOW Just tried to do oil change, sump nut solid so took to my friendly local spanner man. Lifted car noticed front left wheel bit loose so pulled it about a bit. First thought wheel bearings on closer inspection bottom strut bolts all worked loose and about to fall off

Very lucky escape I'd say. Thought it felt a bit strange booting it round those country lanes to work this morning.

Note to self; must pay more attention to knocking noises coming rom front end

I was driving down the motorway in an e30 once. It developed a horrible wheel wobble which got worse and worse. Couldn't be arsed to pull over and investigate so carried on. When I got home the nearside front wheel bolts where about 3 turns loose!!

all of the above... but on the Nurburgring followed by a brake caliper falling off on the way back from Combe the following weekend. Learned a fair bit in a short space of time

Front strut to hub bolts are never tightened properly by garages. They're a stretch bolt and shoud have at least new nylocks fitted and then tightened to 110Nm +90deg...

Did the wheel actually come off?

...because that's what happened to Marcel's car when I was in it

I've had a few things fall off over the years, not put back properly by "mechanics" Brake calipers, wheels etc..

Interesting about those hub bolts though, didn't know that.

Edit, actually Andy I do remember the incident now but had completely forgotten!
