    S2 coupe Custom Springs £175 a set

I have been looking at suspension options for my coupe for a while now, currently on dropped springs and I would like it to be a bit stiffer/higher.

So long story short, DJones has a set of stock ride height 30% stiffer springs on his Ur, made by Coil Springs in Sheffield

Coil Springs Direct the only supplier of Original Entex Stock Springs. For all your spring enquiries & to take full advantage of our expertise, contact us now.

Anyway contacted them and a set of stock ride height 30% stiffer springs for an s2 coupe are £175 + vat (£210) delivered for one set, five sets would be £125 +vat (£150) each delivered to one address. They will do any stiffness ride height you want.

I am intending to get a set, I am currently undecided on what height/stiffness, and whether to stiffen the rears more. Obviously if anybody else was looking for the same spec it will be cheaper to buy them together. Rusty you still looking for springs?

Could you keep me posted on the ride hight you decide on. At the moment my car is sitting on spax lowering springs but i am not sure how low they are . I feel the car would benefit from stock hight or slightly lower than stock.

Good luck with it, I tried to deal with a couple of the spring companies and they were pretty useless at any form of customer service and struggled to understand simple spring design requirements - after chasing for weeks, I then hot ignored for a month because the guy couldn't understand my requirements I don't know what information they're after to make springs that are stiffer or lower but I'd be dubious if they don't ask for some vital measurements, loads, lengths etc. I clearly detailed everything I wanted, which took a lot of measuring, and they still couldn't understand.

I was going to join Rusty if he had found a decent supplier so I am interested in this one Andy. I think I probably want 30% stiffer but only lowered by 10mm as that should not change all my angles too much.

Would you be willing to share all you hard work, measurements AND questions to ask with Andy for the good of a potential GB?

What were your conclusions on the balance front to rear?

        Cheers n

Most of it has been detailed on here in various threads over the years, there are a few stickys. All you have to do is decide the compressed length that you want and that's directly related to rideheight. OE is ~ 180mm Fr / 200mm RR, giving a rideheight of 660mm all round, to the arch with 225/45R17 tyres and HnR are ~ 160mm Fr / 180mm Rr, giving 640mm Fr / 635 Rr rideheight on a stock car, slightly higher at the rear with it stripped but not as much as on OE single-rate springs.

I checked my emails and it was Alpha spring who were useless to deal with; although at least they could be arsed to reply, something that spring coil didn't do, even after chasing several times. I was speaking to Apex suspension but they have a minimum order of 25 sets and that's just not cricket.

ATEOTD, I have a set of non AC coupe springs and avant rears here (fronts are the same) and specs that I drew up and it would be a shame to see it all go to waste.

With regards to balance, I have found that the silly RARB on my car is great on the road and was also great on track with road and sticky tyres, even then understeer can still be an issue and it's really uncompliant at the rear to any uneven loading. I'd personally increase the rear rate by 20% over the fronts, on a normal car and maybe 10% on a stripped out car, perhaps some 15% stiffer rears could work best with a whiteline RARB offering some adjustability. I guess you could offer a road and track set of springs, although you then get into issues with the free length and variabe rate / redundant coils. There's also the change-ove point of any variable rate spring and lots of other things.

Rusty; I emailed them at night and had a reply the next day. I didn't discuss details just asked how much for a set of custom springs and got that price.

Lead time is 5-6 weeks, at £200 a set it has to be worth a shot.

I will update when I decide what I am going for, I don't want to run a group buy but as a few fold were interested in custom springs before it makes sense if we save any money buy ordering at the same time. Also just to pass the link along to anybody that wants to get a set made up.

I am trying to avoid a massive rear anti roll bar as it makes the suspension less independent and even on the stock rarb you can lift the inside rear.

I'd go for a set, +30% and -10mm ride height would seem about right.

I'd be tempted too for when I get mine back on the road.

I am going to be spending some money on my engine now so not ordering springs right now anymore. Picking up some other shiny bits instead :mischeif:
