anyone confirm the part numbers on a 3b pump for the rubber orings and copper washers on the 3 banjos to and from the pupm as i might as well change these too.
I had my "reconditioned" PS pump on and off the car about 6 times before I got all the leaks. I seems what the rebuilders do is to dip the units in acid to clean them without first removing the plugs and O-rings. The acid gets washed off but some remains in the nooks and crannies.. So the acid sits there eating away the rubber and within a week or two you have another leak. There are 2 small brass plugs with O-rings as well as the 2 big cross-head ones. You need to replace them too. Also clean the gauzes in the banjo bolts, these can block up with debris (rubber debris from rotting O-rings?) and cause the seals to fail early as the pump is overworking..
there is another cause of this which someone was speaking about at the MRC meet where a gauze in the pas pipe gets blocked or turned around causing pressure build up
useful feedback Newsh - cheers, I'll add those to the listing too. The fluid was coming out the usual spot but worth giving it the once over to hopefully avoid having to revisit it again within a few weeks. Jamo - I think the one you're talking about is the reducer in the p/s line which can get dislodged and either cause a spike in pressure or just get noisy like mine is having been rebuilt bu Pirtek in the past. I *might* just get that line remade again in an attempt to silence it
