That's the filter, but why's it covered in seal blubber? It's worth changing as you are recharging the whole system.

@ Porkkis, thanks for that info.

Well, changed the bomb, gave the system a good clean out, renewed clips and discovered a new weap from a hose under the battery tray (3b) but couldnt replace due to lack of time. All in all the job is not too bad, access is ok for an s2.

Well worth cleaning the reservoir, the amount of black crap in the bottom showed it hadn't been cleaner for a while (ever?)

Upshot is i have rid the car of the (!) BEEP BEEP BEEP which is excellent and the brakes have a ton more feel to them *and* less pedal travel too.

MOT today lets see if she flys through

I think my bomb is on the way out... Having replaced my leaking pas rack, and also finding a leak in one of the pas pipes, I'm still getting the start-up BEEP BEEP BEEP...

        Are bombs expensive?

Dan, you are in the same boat as I am....

I'm just wondering if we can just go over to a better system than this mineral oil based, nitrogen bomb system. What do the A4' & A6's use? Is there some way to mod are systems to something more conventional??

              Are bombs expensive?

just paid £171 + VAT from vagparts.com - apparently 280 + VAT from a stealer. Looking forward to fitting it - later this week.

It may not be the bomb causing these BEEP BEEP BEEP errors, be careful in diagnosis. I bought a brand new bomb for mine (from Audi), but it didnt cure it. It turns out, after i found a publication on how to testthe system, that its the brake servo leaking internally. It allows fluid to bypass the seals within itself and hence loose pressure after a few hours. The way to test for this is to boost the system (run engine) and then switch off. Undo the return line from the servo and if it doesnt leak then the bomb is fooked, if it squirts out then the servo is shot.

Duble check those instructions as it was a while since iread the booklet and i lost it now

everything including detailed how-to change in the link below, its the same for S2 and as david said best access is from underneath, remove undertray and left hand wheel and its easy, you can release the pressure with the bleed screw
