.Has anyone converted to electro hydraulic pump for steering
But i don't have a 5 cylinder any more so can't say much about fitting place.
I madr done brackets and its fitted to lh chassis rail so i can use original p line to steering rack.
I have now bought a mk2 MR2 pump to fit to mine but u just have not got around to fitting yet. Its going on my typ85 90Q so fitting is different to an S2!

Looked at that have few questions
So the pump runs all the time, how does it control flow it just run at full flow all the time
AFAIK the MK2 pumps just run and run. The MK3 MR2 pumps have a speed controller built into the motor which takes a feed from the speed sensor so the motor winds down the faster you go, like servotronic but actually works.
My plan was to have it on a disused dash switch to a relay so i could have it on or off. You could probably vary the voltage to it to change the assistance. I originally took the power steering off because i liked the feeling of the heavier steering and wanted to get as much weight off the front end as possible but iv now realised that the column is not built to have that much force put through it and flexes alot after a while. I bought the electric pump as something interesting to do really and mess about with variable assistance.

I have vems so I could possably use that to control it
i have a solution, use a bmw electro-hydraulic pas pump, couple with a potentiometer, and you have variable resistance,if you are clever enough, you can also incorporate a speed sensor into the circuit...so the faster you go the harder(or softer )the the steering is
yes have seen that one brian in your project,an excellent idea, but requires more hands on approach that most wont be able to do(alloy welding and space behind the dash)
how does it feel???
the electo hydraulic ones use the existing pas rack and pipework with similar effects

Ok I see, but I am still a little unsure of the benefit?
It can't be for weight saving? As one unit to replace the pump is marginal.
It can't be for converting to vacuum servo as you can just remove the front vein in the pump and cap the feed to the brake bomb.
So I don't see then need? That's what I was trying to ask.
